Full race bikes aren't cheap, if you want a competitive bike your gonna spend around 10k including the bike.

Just because you have a certain amount of money in your quad doesn't mean your going to recieve that much when you go to sell it. You can get a decent race ready 400ex in the low to mid 5's...Good luck!

You can get into XC pretty inexpensive, don't let all this talk of 10K+ quads keep ya from trying. Why build a huge unreliable powerplant, that will outride the suspension?? build it where you can ride it to the limit, comfortably, and reliably. Another thing is to keep it maintained, which is pretty easy on the ole 400's. Stock they are capable of running fast, then look into suspension. The motor is the last touch, a slip on, filter and some jetting is a big help. Don't waste the $$ on big motor mods, until the suspension/rider are to that point. One thing that will make you better than alot of the guys is to do ALOT of riding.
