On my cousins' 400ex the chain snapped and broke off most the part of the top case saver bolt hole that sticks out from the case. Luckily it didn't brake the case. I assume there is nothing we can do if we want to put a case saver on there, short a buying a new case? :scary:

You could try a very small easy out.:(

There wasn't a bolt in it, but now he is thinking that he should take my long standing advice of putting a case saver on there (he didn't have one on when the chain snapped). :(

Have a good alum. welder weld on a piece of alum tube, and tap it out, as long as you give him the new case saver, he should be able to line it up. My buddy broke off the crank case oil drain bolt and he got it done for less than $50. Take it to a guy who welds props for boats. THose guys are really good welders and have to have super tight tolerances, or take it to a semi truck tank shop. There aren't to many people who weld more aluminum then them. It is a small enough weld that the heat won't build up enough to do any damage.

Get online and find you some "wedged typed inserts". Its like a helicoil but 10x better. Some local hardware stores have them. Simply drill out the old hole, careful not to drill thru the case, put the insert in and you are on your way.
