I was at the local drag strip the other night and this guy in this old busted up toyota tacoma pulls up rusted and just aweful looking pulls up (sounds good tho like he was running straight pipes)and he runs and its in the 18s everyone laughing at him so this guy in this big 5.0 mustang (flowmasters, functional hood and all) starts talking to him and comes back and tells everyone that the guy in the tacoma is drunk off his arse and that he wants to bet 200$ on a race :rolleyes: so they line up and the light turns green and all of a sudden the frikkin tacoma runs a 12.6 and stawmps the mustang a new arse hole so evryone was all surpised and we get him to pop the hood and its a twin turbo supra!!!! :p

If the truck ran in the 12's there are very few Mustangs that would run with it. Most Stangs built by amatures run in the 14's some will run in the 13's. I always had fun with Mustangs when I was younger I had a 1991 Escort GT that consistently runs mid 12's. Mustang owners are usualy prety ashamed when they get beat by an Escort.

ummmm, go take a STOCK SVT Cobra for a ride. You'll be well below that 14 second mark you spoke about, and thats not even being touch by an amature as you put it.

Heck, I'm pretty damn sure most drivers could put a stock GT in the mid 14's with no problem.

well, i can explain why that mustang probably lost, its probably that crappy @ss v-6 motor they come with, get the 5.0 v-8 and thats a real mustang, btw, i would much much much rather own a mustang with a v-8 than a lawn mower with some jap stickers all over and a giant wing

most people say its for looks. and for the most part it is. but on nice ricers it helps to keep the rearend down while traveling at high speeds. see the rear ends are light so it puts downforce on teh rear of the car to keep it from squirming.

There is just a couple problems with this theory.
The wing in fact has to have the approximate shape of an air plane wing to create the downforce much like the wing creates lift being flat on the flat on the bottom leaving a pocket above the wing. Now here is the real kicker of the whole drag-downforce scenerio. The stereo in the rear of most of the ricers out there is creating more downforce then the wing considering your average size F-1 wing generates about 1000 lbs of force at 150 mph. Now tell me, how is this force going to be distributed to the frame when its mounted to the trunk lid. Hell, just sit on your trunk lid and see what it does.

Just my engineering mind running wild in a ricer world..Someone throw me a line cause nothing over here adds up.

although the mustang got spanked,doesn't mean they are all crap.that could have happened to any car even a vett.12.6 is fairly fast for a street driven car or truck let alone a tacoma.to give you all a basic idea of what most muscle cars will run stock off the lot,the new supercharged Cobra will average 12.7's bone stock on street tires.a new Corvette ZO6 will average 12.3's a Trans Am WS6 or Camaro SS will average 13.2's. i just find it hilarious how everyone heard a mustang got beat by a truck and proceeded to call them junk and slow because of the fact that one was spanked by a truck.there is a video of a trans am WS6 getting spanked by a snowmobile.everyone said ha ha ha trans am's must suck to get beaten by a snowmobile. #1,the guy in the ta only ran a low 14.with the right driver that car should have ran a full sec. faster. #2.that was one fast snowmobile reguardless of what it was going up against.plenty of other cars would have also gotten owned. ;)

my friends 93 5.0 will do 12's and it doesn't have a lot done to it. it used to run 10's back when the guy before him had it (i knew him too). if we hooked a nitrous bottle back up to it (notice i didn't say naws like the lame ricer boys) we will probably be back to low 11's. shes for sale too. 5500 and shes yours, shes in nice shape too.

I have video of snowmobile beating a 12 second chevelle in the 1/4mile. The snowmobile ran a 9 something at 135mph i believe.

Some mustangs are bad ***, and anything that runs 12's is fast. A lot of people don't realize just how fast 12 seconds is anymore.

I have a cousin that has a 500hp 85 Mustang. Yet its never been run at the track, so i have no idea of what its times would be.

I know a guy with a Dodge RAM 2500 Cummins turbo diesel, and with 18" wide slicks he ran an 11.97. 1.7 60' time. That's a 7000lb truck. Once I get my tanny worked, my CTD 4x4 will be in the 14's... with about 500HP / 950lbft of torque! :macho The top end sucks, but the bottom end is insane on these things! good enough for me! :D Oh yeah, and 20mpg on the freeway too :)

As for the whole wing on front wheel drive:

There is use for them on touring cars that actually race. This involves corners. But imports that are made for dragging and have wings is pointless. Or the wings that are not aluminum (glass wings) those also do nothing but create drag.

Oh yeah, jsut a reminder for you SVT fans, Lancer Evo 8 stock off the lot runs 13.1. One test magazine for 13.0 out of it. This is on the stock tires, stock everything. Damn fast for a 4cyl. Wouldnt take many mods to get it into the 12's. :eek2: :eek:

The funny thing is that the stang would rip your RSX a new ***** hole to. ( no offense at all )

If that stang can run 12's, no one should make fun of him. Most of your cars or the people that were there laughing can't touch 12.

BTW, you no the new Mach 1's, they can run 12.90's right out of the box. :eek2:

excuse me, but I was speaking about the 2003 SVT Cobra... BIG difference vs the 2001 Cobra... why dont you do some reading and see what I am talking about... you'd be surprised.

I'd love to put a 2003 STV Cobra with "X" number of dollars put into it and you can have the 2003 SVT Focus with the same number of dollars that are invested in the cobra ($5k,8k,10k). I've got a pink slip that says all you'll be looking at is my exhaust tips.

Keep in mind this is coming from a Chevy guy. I happen to work at all of the Ford dealerships in the Pittsburgh area... :cool:

Why is everyone talking about what the newer stangs will run? I thaught this was about a 5.0 not a deacent Mustang that can easily get under the 14 sec. mark that MOST 5.0 will not touch.

you also made this statement above that is not true. I have seen with my own eyes a 88 Mustang GT...only mod's are an exhaust, it was in the 14's...I believe high 14's...cant remember exactly where, that was over 12 years ago. The 5.0 was a much better engine than what the early 4.6's were. My buddy had a 94 GT with the 5.0...pretty much stock other than an under drive pulley. We did a race...rolling start, around 20mph against a NEW (at the time) 97 GT with the 4.6, both 5 speeds. The 94 with the 5.0 destroyed that 4.6.

Not until the late, late 90's did the 4.6 become a decent motor.

So what I'm saying is that the 5.0 is one heck of a motor and has ALOT of potential. I'm questioning what you mean by "amature built" and only breaks into the 14's...as if a stock 5.0 would not touch a 14.9. :confused:

anyways, that was my point...take it as it is.... :devil: again, I really dont enjoy talking about Ford's much, but the Mustang is the only exeption to my disliking of Fords. :eek:

Well I know a lot of guys with 5.0 Mustangs that won't touch a 14 second 1/4 and most of them have dropped a lot of $$ into their cars. It's been a few years since I raced at Indy Raceway Park, but when I was going up there for Amature nite there were only 2 or 3 5.0 Mustangs getting into the low 14's or better. Maybe you guys are seeing cars built by people who have a lot more common sence than the guys who built the ones that I've seen. In fact I bet that was the main reason that none of the 5.0 were as fast as the owners talked them up to be IF you guys are telling the truth. I do prefer the 4.6 over the 5.0 for many reasons and have since Ford started putting them in the Mustangs, but thats just my openion formed from what I've seen because of several family members working at Ford dealerships.

Lets all just face the fact that any car or truck that will run in the 12's or even 13's deserves some respect regardless of what it is.

1970 Chevelle, 502/502, TH400, 3.73, 3 inch duals w/flowmaster 4s, ceramic coated oversize headers, dynoed at 517hp........ runs low to mid 12's.

1980 Monte Carlo, 406 small block, TH350, 3.73, 3 inch duals w/flowmasters, dynoed at 410hp....... runs 13.00 all day long on street tires, 12.98 on slicks.

And someone's stock 1986 Mustang GT runs 12's! YA RIGHT!

Smart move not getting that Tiburon. The RSX is sweet and I almost bought one myself but it was just too small. It's a quick car but it won't run a 14.1 in stock form. Maybe mid 15's if your lucky. Still fast for a 200hp car!

My crappy looking UUUGGGLLLYYY station wagon runs mid 12's at 107 in total street legal trim on G-60-14 street tires. Surprised many a Vette, Kamaro, and 5.0 with it. Got a Viper and a Porsche one night at Gainesville too. All for under $3500 too. Way too much fun! Got a few pics on my web page at the bottom. Upgrades coming most likely next spring.
PS- no nitrous at all either.

true but mines not stock :devil: look up dc sports they have a cold air and exuast that gives it 28 hp to the wheels thats around 183 hp to the front wheels but you may be right i cant wait to run it im racing at nopi race wars! ( i will prolly get smashed tho) still it will be fun up there

183hp to the wheels sounds about right and should put you into the low 15's and high 14's which is very quick. I'm running 14.8's in my S/C'd Tacoma and it's scary!

Also, be very careful of how you treat that 6spd transmission. It's got a very very close shift pattern and gear ratio. You don't want to do what this guy did!

A couple of weeks ago, I was cruisin with my friend on a Sunday in his RSX-S. His only mods are: intake, exhaust, and a Hondata Flash. Well, he decides to drop the hammer and show me what his car has. He started redlining every gear. He was at about 7k RPMs in 5th, and for whatever reason, he decides to downshift into 4th. The gear box on a RSX-S is real close together and it's a 6 speed. So, instead of shifting to 4th, he accidentally shifted into 2nd gear right around 7k RPMs. All of a sudden, we hear a "boom" and it started to stink real bad. Right after that, we heard the chunks of the block falling out from underneith the car and hitting the chassis. The smoke got so bad we couldn't see infront of us, so he slammed on the brakes and pulled to the shoulder. We jump out of the car to realize his motor was on fire. Needless to say, we put the fire out before the fire truck came, and got a friend to pull us back home

7,000 rpm in fifth would be 128 mph, and 128 mph in second would be a cool 16,200 rpm

Actually, (if memory serves me correctly) Adam ran that with his regular 4X4 tires. He also pulled about 1500 ft lb of torque and 600 hp on the dyno in Rohnert Park. Lots of nitrous and propane involved there.

It's hysterical watching him blow off some dork in a ricermobile, belching out enough black smoke to hide the entire other lane.

I got a 1969 chevy truck.It is a long bed.

The motor is a 350 with 6.0 inch rods,forged pistons,scat cast crank,4 bolt main block,Comp cams 270h cam,(.470 lift,224 duration @ .050,110lsa.)Comp cams double roller timing chain,World products s/r torquer heads,Edelbrock performer rpm intake,edelbrock 600 cfm electric choke carb.(I know it is to small)Hedman 1 5/8 inch headers,2.5 inch dual exhaust,3:73's with posi,3 speed manual trans with hurst shifter.

I haven't went to the track yet.I can tell you this.I have smoked everything I have ran with so far.I am guessing it is low 14's high 13's.After I get my 250r back togother and setup again I will be puting a 100 horse shot to it.Should be the 12's.With traction.

Wow that is an awesome time.What is this 327 in?

Last night I was at big river sand drags.The owner has a jeep truck thing.

It has a destroked 400 small block.He was running the 300 foot sand drag in 4.5 seconds.There was also a rail with a blown big block.The jeep was still faster than the rail.

I got a 406 small block out in the garage I need to do something with.I will probably end up selling it to pay for my R parts though.

BTW here is a pic of my truck.

The car belongs to a friend of mine..... I just helped him build it. Never looked at the slip to see what the 660 times or anything else are. The car runs consistant low-mid 12's, depending on how he comes off the line. ( he's VERY inconsistant with his RT and throttle control )

The engine was dyno'd as built at 517hp at the crank. This is a GM crate engine, rated at 502hp through stock manifolds, but he's running oversize ceramic coated headers and 3 inch exhaust with equalizer tube which adds a few hp because it revs a little longer.

In short.... this car will pass anything but a gas station. Good thing it runs on pump gas!

Yeah that is very smart. Learn how to drive the 6spd tranny before making any passes. Keep us updated on Mods and track times. I still want to build up a pocket rocket myself...

It will be in the shop for awhile im going to put the body kit on it the exaust and cold air before race wars then i will put the hood and wing on it, when you start building your car becareful where you order you stuff i had wait like 4 and a half weeks for the body kit to come in from japan :rolleyes: i would have already had it on if it wasnt for that its going to be close race wars are july 15 and it will take bout 3 weeks to but the kit on cause we have to wait till he finishs a guys civic so it will be close

Great looking cars, the early Mustangs. Sad to say though, most of the high-po models would be a good match for most of the quicker 4-bangers of today (in acceleration only). Technology has provided us with some pretty impressive cars today; even if so many of them are wrong wheel drive.
