when i was riding my 400ex yesturday i noticed it was blowing blue smoke, then later that day my friend flipped it and it started blowing black smoke, also the gasket between the cylinder and the valve cover is leaking a little bit of oil.

Sounds like your burning a little oil. Replace the gasket, and take a look at your cylinder if you get a chance, might have a scratch on it, and causing a little bit of oil to get by and be burnt up. Good luck.
