Well, i am thinking about getting a banshee at a place in chicago for five grand, but i need some info. I wanna know how much maintenance goes into one of these machines and how often would i need to rebuild if a ride hard 2 or 3 days a week. If these machines require too much maintenance, i might just get a z, but i really wanna go fast.

Yes its reliable, even hopped up. Use no less then premium gas,use good quality 2 cycle oil. Change your gear box oil every 2 months. Expect to rebuild the shee every 2 seasons. Install a proflow before you even start the bike, and when (not if) you build it up make sure it's properly jetted.

Depends on how you take care of them. My grandpa's shee is an 89'. We rebuilt it for the first time on 01', it had the original pistons in it and they where in spec. We choose to bore it and put in vito's pistons though. Like anything, maintain it and it will run forever.

One more question, how is the suspension on the shee.

All this plus you want to redo the rings about once a season and run engine ice in the coolant and if it stills heats up I would install a temp guage and get a aftermarket rad or coolhead.
Other than that they are really fun and some people run the things without touching them from the dealer for years and not have one problem. My friend has a 99 he kept it outside since 99 and drives it about 4 times a week very hard...but hasnt touched the engine once and still has everything stock except tires and rims which he goes through alot of

In my opinion , no a banshee could not go for alot of abuse , they are sweret hopped up though. Ryan

If you take care of it, it'll be fine. I have a 99 Banshee, its still on the stock bore and everything. I just replace the oil every 10hours of riding. Yea, get the PROFLOW, its works!

It's better for big jumps than small ones...its kinda confusing.

I wouldnt recommend one for MX tho... a lot of my friends with banshees that race MX.. have nothin but problems.. but Ive ridden a couple of them before and they seem to be one of the best duners you could ask for

I second the thing about not using them for MX. They are reliable as long as you take care of it, and the suspension is ok but as with most stock shocks could be better.

Thanks for the replies yall, i still don't know what quad i want though. The banshee would be awesome, but the z is probably better for somebody on a budget like me.

You could replace the shocks with steel bars and prolly not notice a difference

They are fast though...

Banshees are reliable if you maintain them correctly. Just do what everyone else recommended:)
