well i just got my motor together on my 250x and it won't start. all i did was put a new top end in. it has a spark when you kick it, but the motor won't get any compression. the rings are brand new, obviously, and they're gapped right so its not that, i don't know why it would be the head gasket since thats brand new it never ran for a second. i also noticed no fuel getting in the motor but its not a problem with the carb. the only thing that could point to is the rings not sealing because then it wouldn't pull anything into the motor, right? well i can't think of everything so what should i check? any ideas?
thanks

Are you sure you have the right size piston and rings, it might be a slight overbore, if there's any dirt on the head gasket it won't seal, it has to be perfectly clean, how bad was the cylinder wall? You put the sparkplug back in after you checked it for spark right?;)

yea the spark plug had a spark. i have the right piston because i got .080 over and got the cylinder bored to it. so the cylinder is perfect. yea the motor was clean when i put it together, and i mean spotless. i don't know whats up with it. i'd hate to give up and take it to a shop, but i don't have time to deal with this, i'm going to rausch 7th and 8th........

All I can say is take it apart again, use all new gaskets, and see whats going on. I'm out of ideas.

did you adjust your valves or seat/lap them right? maybe their not seating right. ive had that happen before. make sure your head bolts are tight and small stuff before you rip it open.

i had a problem with no compression and it was my timing chain needed to be replaced check that out.

check your timing maybe, also is your on and off switch on (stupid ? but sometimes it happens) also it may be in your wiring for the killswitch, make sure all of those wires are good, i have had the problem with the wiring harness to the killswitch go bad, i just replaced it and it started right up, just keep trying im sure you will get it

Also make sure your kill switch is in the RUN position....alot of man-hours wasted on that damn thing.

check the timing if its off the valve may open and stop comp from building up. put finger over spark pluk and try starting and see if there is and compresion

well i figured out the reason for no comp. apparantly the timing chain fell off at the crank and was rubbing just enough that it would turn but not as much as it should. so every time the crank rotated the cam fell behind by about 10 degrees and sent the timing out of whack.....hopefully thats all and i'll have it up and running tomorrow.
