I have been planning to make my own extended a-arms and have heard people talk about +3 a-arms. Would +2 or +3 be best for motocross?

ultimatly +3 is the best, the extra width gives you much better handleing and less bump steer at high speed. it also lets you run a longer shock, which gives you more suspention travel.keep in mind though you will not be able to use a stock length shock as you can on a +2. another thing to consider is if you race, the ama and most district classes have a width limit so in order to run a +3 a arm you'll need to run an offset rim to keep you within the legal width limit. although you will still be back at your original +2 width, the geomitry and center of gravity is much better with +3 a arms.

Like Quad041 said, +3 a arms will make your quad too wide for motocross and I think they look ridiculous. I would just stick with +2 +1 a arms. All the pros that run +3 arms have after market frames that are alot more narrow than stock. Heres a pic of a 400ex with +3 a arms,

racerx,
even though the pro's use after market frames that are more narrow, there a arms are even wider to make up for that.
for example a roll frame is more narrow then the stock frame, so it uses an a arm that is +4, it is still refered to as a +3 because the final width is +3 wider then stock.
and.. even though the+3 is too wide by AMA rules they use an offset front wheel to bring the final width 50" to stay within the rules. like i said even though your final with is STILL 50" as it would be with +2 the center of gravity is much differnt and if you can afford it is well worth the money.

What are offset wheels? Do you just swap the front tires, or can you buy some wheels that are made to be offset?

no, you have to buy the offset wheels,
i would recommend buying from a company like nac's or k&k because they will know what off set you need.

Heres a pic of my buddy buckley's roll 250r, he has +3 a arms for a roll design frame though. So I think they are like +5 over stock.

I seen the whole pic so dont worry about posting it. It looks like he is building it from the ground up? That will be one sweet bike i cant say the same about the colores but still sweet.

Its just a normal rebuild, its nothing special he has had the bike for a couple years now. He gets it all redone every season for the nationals. Powdercoated, chromed, new plastics, new shocks, new tires and wheeels, new carb and reeds, new cylinder....etc. It is a nice bike though.

You call all that stuff a normal rebuild? I wish my normal rebuild was like that. LOL.

Its a normal rebuild for a pro racer, considering most pros just get new bikes every season.

Would the skinnier front end with longer a-arms thing even change you center of gravity? Whats the advantage there?
