View Full Version : Need Help 250x won't start

Hey guys I was wondering if you had any ideas of what the problem with starting my sons friends 250x? It will not turn over when you try to kick start it but it will start if you bump start it.??? Any ideas what this could be?

No the more umph is not working. If it was the starter then why would it start when it is bump started? Come on guys.

Well we hooked a spark tester to the inside of the spark plug wire and it sparks. So I don't think that is what it is.
Any other suggestions?

to me ...this does sound strange ..if it will sart while being bump started ..never had an 250 tho ...maybe it is the ground for the ignition & its making a good contact from being bumped vs being kicked ..
or perhaps its timing problem i really don know ..just trying to help some :cool:

Sounds like something went wrong with the kick starter........ when you kick it does the kicker even move forward/down??? or does it do nothing.....

sounds like a jetting problem may be too lean. or even a clogged jet? my 250 is reaaly hard to start because of compression. and poping the clutch is much easier

no its not the stator it wouldnt start if the stator was bad

my friends did the same, he got a whole electrical system, rev limiter, wire harness but he kept the stator, and the kick over 2 kick, now the bike is a piece of junk, he's gettin a enw bike soon

Yes the kick starter does move like it is supposed to. I am thinking it is a clogged jet too.

When is the last time you cleaned your carburator? I don't mean outside either, inside top to bottom? It sounds like a jet is colgged, maybe your float is sticking some, record your settings and take it a part and clean it with some good carb cleaner, and check to see where something might be getting in. Hope this helps
