What gear ratio would you guys recommend for a 440ex? I want plenty of low end power...

Is this for MX, TT, Hilclimbing, or XC. I honestly dont know what to use for XC or Hillclimbing but for MX if you can handle clutching a little out of corners I ride 16-36 or 37. In TT I use 15-37 or 38 depending on track conditions. If you cant handle clutching out of corners stick with 15-36. Mo;)

I run stock gearing with 18 inch rear tires, I found that to work best for me.

i run a 16t with 20 rear tires and my 406 kit and it still pulls way harder then stock... i ran a 15t for awhile and i noticed everytime i hit the gas i was shifting...

I am running 14/39 right now, but i havent experimented any higher than stock. This gearing is pretty good for going about halfway down a 300 foot sand dune, turning around, hittin the throttle, and shooting straight back up it :D (the dune is just almost as steep as \, pretty close, actually) and its good for the big hill climbs with a ton of turns before you can start climbing, the ones without a run.

and a question for you guys, if i raise my gearing, I wont have to shift as quickly will i? because i can hit the rev limiter in every gear but 5th in under 5 seconds. any ideas?

From my experience if in loose sand take off in second once you're rolling abit...slam third quickly..then forth. Short shift. With your mods HOTTEX440EX the motor will do the rest. I've read where you've done away with the limiter. The rev limiter will not help hp gains, but will help shifting errors.

I don't race MX but I did notice a butt-load of bottom with 14/38 with my EX. Higher the counter sproket or lower the rear will give more speed which will in turn will make it harder for your motor to hit the limiter. The key to MX'ing is smoothness. It a depends if you are on a fast or slow track. I would say go with the higher side of the gearing and let your skills take you the rest of the way.

hot thats how i was but it took about 10 seconds and i was constantly changing gears it will be great for when i race but for out riding around in the woods and stuff goofing off it was just pathedic to ride like that... i would go to my practice track and in a turn i would be in 2nd straight away 5th by the time i was half way down it... and then i would be hurrying and breaking and takin time to shift down 3 gears... our turns are very sharp most are bull turns... i have a 16t now and i never take it outta 3rd and 4th gear out of a turn i pop the clutch one time and its like a rocket.... i am gettin 18 tires though so i will be basically back to a 15t sproket...
