One of my riding buddies says that 250R calipers will fit on a 400EX, is this true? If so, do they bolt on all around or are brackets needed?

No they will not just bolt up. I have them on mine. For the fronts you have to buy the bracket. Baldwin sells them for $200. Then you still have to buy the calipers. The rear uses a little different mounting plate. And you have to buy a new rotor in the rear. The whole setup changing over cost me around $700. If I were any of you I would skip the fronts and get the rear. You get more ground clearance with a 250r one and its a dual piston caliper which lets you go deeper in a corner before braking. The results I have from the front ones is about the same I got with my stock 400s. Hope that helps. Mo

I think I'll try just the rear for a start. Did you cut a mount yourself or buy it?

I bought a 250r mount from Honda for like $15 bucks I think. I also think Nacs makes a cool 250r brake mount for $20.

i agree with mity,
i put an r rear brake setup on my 400ex almost a year ago, it works much better then the 400ex brake system not to mention the better ground clearence, the only negitive to the r brakes is the price of the parts ex parts are much cheeper but thats the price you pay so to speak.
i also agree that r front calipers are mot neccisary, i fact alot of pro riders use ex front brakes on there R's because there so much cheaper.

I also have the rear 250r caliper. It dosen't use brake pads like the 400ex's and it stops alot easier and quicker,to do the swith you'll need a 250r caliper, brake rotor, brake mount, i thin nacs mount 29 dollar but can't be used if you use tapered berings, also a 250r brake line cause the 400ex's will be to long. anything else you need to know

Is the rear brake conversion doable for a 300ex? if not what could I do to make my 300ex's rear brakes work more like the 400ex we haves rear brakes?
