I just downloaded a program called Electronic Cosmo's MPEG Suite v1.5. I can't figure out how to use it, so I thought maybe someone could help me. I want to convert AVI files that I record from my Digital Camera into MPEG format so I can send it to freinds over the internet without it taking an hour. Here is what it tells me under the configuration tab: (I'm assuming I have to configure it first)

Theres a column called Encoder with a list of choices

Codec
1. EC98ENC (c) Electronic Cosmo
2. Blade ENC (c) Tord Jansson
3. Plugger + (c) Alberto Demichelis

Mode
1. Stereo
2. Joint Stereo
3. Mono
4. Dual Mono

Bitrate
(counts from 32-320 Kbit/s)

Layer
1. Layer I
2. Layer II
3. Layer III

Priority
1. Time Critical
2. Highest
3. Higher
4. Normal
5. Lower
6. Lowest
7. Idle

Then there is 2 Checkboxes after that:

1. Delete source files after encoding?
2. Always overwright?

And then you choose an "Output Directory" which is c: on default.

I know this is long, but any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot, Fender.

Found another Column titled Decoder:

Priority
1. Highest
2. Higher
3. Normal
4. Lower
5. Lowest

Output Format
1. WAV
2. RAW

::Checkbox:: Always Overwright?

Then you choose the Output Directory again

Another Column titled Converter:

Temp Decoder Dir: (Choose File)
Output Directory: (Choose File)

Sorry, this may be confusing, but thanks again.

Dude I dont think you can convert avi to mpeg because avi is audio-video save in a compressed and poor quality. Mpeg is much better quality, once it is saved as an AVI and quality is lost, I dont think you can get it back.

Dont quote me on this. Go to www.vcdhelp.com

Those guys can help.

I use that encoder/decoder and it is only for MP3s and music files as far as i know.

I also believe that with MPEG the quality is alot more controled. So if you want high quality it takes a huge amount of disc space while with avi you don't have as much control. Also to convert the files from avi to MPEG I just use windows movie maker in XP. That seems to be the fastest and easiest way.

Like I said before, I use Windows movie maker but here are some links to software packages that seem to do what you want. I haven't ever used any of them to give you much help on them, but they say they do what you want.
