hey guys, i noticed that my ex has been taking oil more frequent. then i found that it leaks out from under the frontr sprocket. i took off the sprocket, and there os a thin o-ring like thing, then a thin ring of metal, then another o-ring. The one closest is very soft, and i pushed it lightly with a screwdriver, and oil formed around that. it is not a big drip, but it gets me nervous about loosing oil.....so how do i fix it. I know some will say stick a screwdriver in and pry it out, but i don't think that will work...do i have to take the entire case off????:( :( :(

You will probably have to split the cases to fix it right!:(

ok thanks, and maybe after i spend the $100 that they are gona charge me and wait two weeks after various calls to look at it, i can have them fix the jetting.
hey GNCC.....you seem to know alot, my bike is a pain in the @$$ to get started when it sits for like3+ days, i changed the plug, and it seems black, it has a jet kit, i don't know what size though i bought it like it is. Also it seems to take more oil (nevermind the leak) and when i eventually get it started(if i can) and i rev it it puffs out black smoke, but not like a 2-stroke. Is it time to check compression for rings? or does it flood with too big of jets?

I would try to get at least another opinion off of here before you schedule it for an apointment.
I would try a new plug to make it start a little easier.
If it was burning oil, it would be a blueish white smoke. I would say that you are flooding it trying to start it, and all of the extra gas makes the black smoke when it finally gets started.(that is just a guess):D

Go down to your honda dealer and ask for the counter shaft seal and look at it it comes out from the side without splitting the cases it is in there like a rear seal on a car transmission you might be able to pull it out with a packing puller (a cork screw type tool) or a small screwdriver be careful not to scratch the case then put a little silicone on the outer metal part of the seal and drive it back in with a seal driver or a socket that is a little smaller than the seal.

so is that entire thing around the countershaft the seal?? Would it be # 34 ?

Have you tried turning the fuel petcock to off before you leave it sitting for a few days? Mine used to do the same thing you are describing and turning the fuel off seemed to solve it.

yup, turn it off every night, i can get it started some times. but i have to give it bursts of FULL throttle or it will die and not start unless i clean the plug.

Instead of cleaning it replace it. Those little boogers are cheap!

i do, but replacing them every couple days does not get very cheap.

I would be willing to bet that if you get the jetting right, it will start easier!

yes, the seal is very skinny though, i don't know how you would pry it out though. I will buy the seal then take it from there.

Hey GNCC... i checked and i have a 160 main jet(i think) BIGGUN suggested running a 158 main 40 piolit, sound good to you guys??

There is no way you should be running a 160, or even a 158 with the mods you have! I agree with the 40 pilot, but your main should be about a 152-155. The fact that you have to open the throttle all the way when you start it tells me that you're way rich. The only time I EVER have to do that to my bike is after it's been on it's top, or when someone's little kid decides to pump the throttle about 50 times when I'm not paying attention. More gas doesn't always equal more power.

i know more gas does not equal more power. When i bought the bike it was at a higher elevation than i am at now. I am at 700 feet above sea level, the guy i bought it from was higher than that.:D
I bought the quad with the jets it has now, and now got tired of changing plugs. I thought that it was running rich, now i know. I pulled the plug and it is BLACK as black as it is going to get. I just checked a half hour ago, and saw it has a 160. So you think a 155???
If so then tomorrow i will go and buy a 155 and a 158 and see if the 155 is good.
Once i get it going it runs fine, but the start is what is killing me.:grr:
