EXriders going to be featured in October's ATV Sport

Well I finalized it today - EXriders and our Project 400ex are going to be featured in October's ATV Sport. They promised me four pages and a good number of pictures :) Just letting you guys know what is up. The bad thing is that their deadline for gathering all the information on us and our quad is only a couple weeks away - so now I got to put this project together in a hurry. Oh well, it will be worth it :p Now I just have to find some aftermarket 400ex hubs fast :grr:

As far as I know they just want pictures of the quads - but if someone got me a very high quality group picture from the Rausch ride I could see if they would include it. The HM ride is after the deadline so that won't work :( When I say high quality I mean 300+ dpi or a perfectly focused still picture no smaller than 4x6, with excellent clarity.

As a side note, we are picking up the project engine from our builder FDO on Saturday. We are also picking up the Burgard a-arms from Kenny and Zracer on Saturday at the Penton GNCC race. It would be cool to meet any of you guys that are at the Penton :D

Ooops, I didn't open that box up yet :D I do need a price on some blue Galfer stainless steel brake lines (I want them blue), +1 in the front and standard length in the rear. :eek: I wondered where those tires went! :mad: :scary: Guys the project building is going very slowly - either the starter or the starter relay is junk, not disclosed at the time of sale (the quad was in pieces when Guy and I picked it up) :grr: I'm trying to figure out what the exact problem is. Also still waiting on the a-arms from Burgard but I have been promised that they will be here in a day or two at most.

A quick note - we got an aftermarket oil cooler and oil temperature gauge from Dirt Mods. Guy and I both agreed that they were lacking in instructions and ease of use. So lacking that we decided not to even use them (there wasn't even a suitable place on the quad to mount the cooler, let alone a good mounting bracket). The UM Racing airbox seems ok but it is too shallow (by just a teeny bit) for the K&N air filter. We made it fit but it could have been better. The RPM stuff bolted on flawlessly (as expected), as did the Sparks pipe. The quad did not have the white plastic panel that goes inbetween the gas tank and the engine/carb so right now the gas tank is resting on the carb. I'm going to order the white plastic piece and hopefully that will provide enough space so that we don't have to turn the carb a little bit sideways to operate.

Wonderful - thanks for the update Harlen! I asked Kenny to powdercoat the lowers smoke chrome (or black chrome) and the uppers almost chrome because translucent blue (like you and I had discussed) will not match our side cases (it would clash badly). The quad is suffering from some electrical gremlins without a doubt. I wish we would've tried starting it while I was there. I assumed all the electrical components were working (I know, when you assume things it makes you look like an ***). I think it's a 2 part problem: 1.) something wrong with the starter and, 2.) something wrong with the magnetic starter switch. The wiring harness had a tether kill added along with the removal of the switch cluster for the on/off, lights and start button and all this worries me. Like Ben said, we never knew for sure whether or not this thing even ran to begin with. I just we can get it sorted out in time:(

Well after much more extensive testing I think we've tracked down the problem. The magnetic starter relay is getting 12v in from both switch leads?? One of the leads is hot all the time when it shouldn't be. The tether kill and electric start button look as if they were installed by Monkeyboy or Slapnutz. I think Ben is just going to purchase a new front portion of the harness where all the splicing took place. The starter did test good at the local auto parts store so that's good news.

Ok, no problem. Thanks for powdercoating the a-arms. :) You quoted me $48 for the 300ex battery but I can get a battery from Service Honda for $49? :confused: What is the difference between the two, aren't they both Yusa (sp)?
