my buddy's raptor sputters and misfires in reverse. Only in reverse. it's fine in any other gear. Anybody have a clue what's going on here? Is there a rev limiter in reverse that can be messed up?

Its the rev limiter. It can be removed, but I wouldn't do it. Quads are far to easy to flip in reverse!

buy the kit on ebay to remove it....the rev limiter on the raptor is so gay cause when you get stuck in the mud & stuff & sputters & it sucks cause your not getting out going back. If you install the bypass switch for the rev limiter (VERY EASY, took me 3 minutes, hardest part was taking seat off) then the raptor will do around 30 mph in reverse. NO JOKE.....you will die though if you go this fast backwards:macho heres the link on ebay

I purchased the Reverse Rev Limiter Bypass kit from CCPerformance on EBay. It was $15 bucks plus shipping and was a cinch to install. It comes with everything necessary and it comes with a switch that you mount on the dash or anywhere you would like so you can activate and deactivate the rev limiter with the push of a switch; it is a trick looking blue light up switch too :D . You will find a multitude of people with a plethora of knowledge that are more than willing to help you out. I am only 15 and know more than many people that ride around this area.

I will agree that it's useless with the rev limiter - I was riding with one this weekend and I think he had to get off and push more than i did LOL

The rev limiter is set for reverse or when the parking brake is installed.

Seems like a excelent feature :rolleyes:

i don't think people will be bad mouthing yamaha after this yfz450 is out...the craptor was just a cover up for the yfz450...

Though truthfully since having some time to look over the info on their site the yfz does look like one good machine and if it performs as well as it apears it should yami may have themselves one he!! of a quad now.

it's still under warranty so no surgery yet. took it back to the dealer, he fiddled with the throttle cable, said that was the problem, said something about having to fill out a work order, bla bla bla, couple days wait, we're like, no need for that, we'll wait right here while you fix it. :)

you boys need to focus your anger towards honda. if anyone "sucks" it's honda for leaving you high and dry while everyone else including Gas Gas comes out with new sport quads.

btw, please don't respond unless you have a full time job,paid for your own quad or not living with your parents.:macho
back to the subject: i grounded the wire leading into the tranny and no longer have the rev limiter. price- free... let me know if your interested, i'll send ya pics.
