View Full Version : Chroming side cases and heat guard?

Does anyone know how well this will work?...and is the heat guard steel if so will it rust and how strong is chroming..and no i dont want to polish it

The heat sheild on the 400ex is aluminum, on the 300ex i think it is aluminum also. Not sure about chroming toughness, ask papy or possibly popo

Chroming is strong, but in the end it will chip, flake, etc...I would highly recommend you get it polished.

400ex heat sheilds are stainless steel.....there a btich to polish but wont rust....

thanks man... The new chrome swing arm should be coming in any day also.... Can't wait to get the thing back apart thou and PC the frame the same as my upper A-arms

what do you guys use for polishing ? also what parts can you polish on a 250r? i was looking into polishing a couple things but i wasnt sure what i can and cant do? also does anyone have any pics of anything they polished on an r?

On your 250r you can take off your side cases and polish them up. It takes a few hours but it looks good after your all done. I use Mothers Polish to polish stuff.

i had a couple hours today and decided to try polishing my mag cover. it came out nice, thanks for the help

Hit that with a little less grit sandpaper and repolish it.

do you really need sand paper for the cases?
..can't you use aircraft stripper? then never dull or mother?

my motor's ganna be complete when it come's back, and i'm not ganna want to bust it back apart....
..can i strip it, then polish it, while it's together, but out of the frame?.....or are there some corners i can't get to the will make it look like ****

derek thanks i will do it and see if i can get it to come out a little bit better
