I don't understand WHY!! honda does'nt step up to the pump & just get it over with & put a bigger motor [hint-450cc] or 500 in a 400ex frame & just get it over with!! in time they will have to or they will not be able to compete it's just that dame waiting game that sucks!!

honda built one of the most capable, best handling trail machines in history with the 400ex. Its not an out of the crate recer, its not a dune machine, heck its not alot of things. It is however a VERY good bike in its current form.

look at it this way............you could be riding a warrior.

hey guys, i think its time to turn ur heads and open ur eyes. there are more companies than just honda out there. i know, i know honda is known for having great reliablilty, but hey so do all the other companies, they would be bankrupt if they didnt sell good machines. so why not open up to other companies? i did, i got my self a z400, and i love everything about it. it is a lighter, faster, liquid cooled 400ex.

exactly 100% right

The 400ex may not be the best machine out acording to the magazines. But what do you think made companys like yamaha, suzuki, kawaswki, etc design these new machines. If honda did not come out with the 400ex which you are bashing we would not have the luxury of being able to choose between sport quads. Sure the 400ex might not be the best at everything but it is very capable at doing almost anything it is a trail machine that is gaging for horse power i will admit that but how many 400ex's have you seen at the local race track domanating or on the trails what kind of machine do you see most? Or in the dunes you will see modifed honda's not having any trouble shreading sand and getting air. Have you ever heard of a 400ex breaking frame parts when it's not even a year old? Or throwing a gear box? No i dought it. That is why when it comes time for me to look for a new quad i will be looking at a 400ex not because it is the fastest, nor the wildest because it is the best all around package in my opion

I'm perfectly happy to see the 400ex is going on for another year. Their is nothing wrong with it in my opinion. I can keep up with all my friends just fine (and beat them as well hehe), its rock solid reliable, and the list goes on. Its a great quad guys, quit your complaining, sheesh

a think a bigger carb is just perfect for the machine it is providing just the amount of power just about any rider can really use. Not to mention its one of the best handling chasis there is. Granted to me a perfect bike would be a crf motor in a 400ex chasis but I can't see honda doing that because they would not be able to make much money because of the prices they would have to ask. jmo.

well this way honda can save alot of money by just changing the carbs on the 400ex's and maybe have them sell more instead of having them collect dust in warehouses... im guessing that once all the 400ex's are gone we will start to hear about a new honda

Chanman420q
05-26-2003, 08:30 AM
well it looks like im gunna be lookin into getting a honda factor 38mm instead of any other aftermarket carb now...

Airbox and jetting mods help the 400ex quite a bit since its pretty cholked up so I can see the new carb helping the quad quite a bit, It should have a few extra Hp than last year, when it really isn't that far behind on paper.

It's a longshot, but it may be that extra push needed against a Z or something.

I think their going to be VERY close now, heck it could beat it now...the EX wasn't exactly that far behind speed wise.

05-26-2003, 09:54 AM
i was perfectly happy with my ex..i still am...has plenty of power...and upgrade in suspension and its the perfect quad for anyone

Anyone know how much the Honda factory 38mm carb is going to cost, and have an estimate of how much horsepower gain. I too am thinking about upgrading to it. I wonder if the 04 are really leftover 03 with the upgraded carb added so they can get rid of them to make room for the new crf 450. (Yes I am being optomistic)

Hey its only a 5 year old design, why complain atleast the bump started the sport with the 400ex, and like already posted we could be ridding warriors... (not likely but...) Honda will come out with a kickin machine again but you cant just expect them to put a new one out every 4 years, atleast we have the ability to switch companies, if you are really wanting a new Honda get the KFX or Z, they are basicly 400ex's with liquid cooling, 500 more RMP, 1 cc more and DOHC....

MY raptor turns just fine except the front wheels are never on the ground. The raptor turns good except it likes to roll over I think it is more stable on it's side hey I like going around in circle on my side.
With wheel spacers and less aggressive tires the raptor is much better.

Besides you just jelous that the 400 wont fit between railroad tracks lol!

I was at Raush about a month ago. I was on my Polaris and I thought I was doing pretty well on the MX course. This young guy on a stock 400EX zoomed right passed me. I then thought.."Ok, Ill go back to the truck now." lol

What did they have to have changed to put a bigger carb in it? They couldn't have just stuck a bigger carb on there and it run better could they? Wouldn't it need more air and a better flowing exhuast?

Mr_Bub400ex
05-26-2003, 05:56 PM
you can bore out ur stock carb and u can get gains without anything else so why not put a better carb in it. if its a resonabile price ill be getting one

Hell yes.... I have a buddy with a z-400 and i could smoke him b4 i got the 465 kit, prettry easily, yall forget we have 4 valves they have 2, lot of difference, they might win in a drag, but i could easily smoke him in a track or trail race

yamacal, the raptor is a great machine too...........heck, if and when my c-dale takes a crap I will be on a raptor most likely. The 400ex is underpowered for long steep hills............but the east coast trails are where the 400ex shines. Its tough to beat a 400ex in the woods or on the track. The power is very easy to use and easy to ride smooth. Sometimes smooth is better than fast..........

I too hope that honda gives us a big brother to the 400ex. I just hope they keep the current 400ex platform in the lineup and maybe add a 600cc version for us aggressive trail riders.

I think its cool that the 400ex is still going. People are still buying them and loving them. It may no longer be a paper champ but its still an awesome quad. Also with it rumored, well not really a rumor anymore, that yamaha is releasing another new sport quad, why hurry and release a guad that may not be able to compete.

theres nithign wrong with the 400 if they coem out with a 450crf engine quad then i hope they keep the 400 theres nothign wrong with it its one of the best bikes otu there, maybe not in speed or acceleration but in hadeling and on the track or just rec riding its great, you will see more of them then any other sport quad.
