Until I can afford a aftermarket pipe I was just thinking about modifying my stock silencer. I have a 416 kit with a hot cam 2 cam. What are your suggestions for what I should do to the stock silencer? Should I leave it the way it is? Would cutting the spark arrester or whatever that cage thing on the end piece is make a difference in performance? Thanks.

The less resistance in the silencer the better. So if you would remove the spark arrestor yes that should provide better flow. (also make it loud probably)

Grind the welds inside the headpipes.

What welds should I grind? The ones right where the headpipe starts (the inside of the flange or whatever that goes into the engine?

Is there a pretty good notice in the power difference if I do this? I think I might try it.

i have my spark arrestor off my stock right now & the only difference is that it sounds loud & doesn't sound very good. I notice no power gains but my engine is stock.

My buddy took his end cap and spark arrestor off. It fouled his plug, and sounded like a sick boat motor.

Dont take your spark arrestor out of your stock pipe. It completely changes the powerband of the bike, you might end up hating it. You may even have to rejet it.

I carefully ground out the welds on my headpipe, cleaned as much as I thought I should. IMO, unless your a pro-quad drag racer that is looking to get that 1/100 of a second off there quarter mile time, you wasting your time and dremel bits grinding the welds.
