I've got a 36T rear sprocket for the ole 300 to pick up the top end and make 1st gear a little more usable for my son.... but the chain is either too long or too short. The chain is brand new and hasn't been streched... Are there any 1/2 of a chain links out there? Or am I missing something else?

theres enought adjustment in the carrier for a link or two, try adjusting it, that brake caliper mounting bracket might be binding on something, make sure that is moving freely

there are 1/2 links, if it's a new chain though you shouldn't have too use one, unless you haven't moved the adjustment all the way in, or cut the chain 1 link to short

I have 13/36 gearing on my 300 with a new chain and I adjusted it all the way, it's still a lot more loose than i would like but haven't had the time to look into half links to make it right. I was thinking about cutting out a link and putting in two master links but thats kinda riggin it up a little.

why would removing a link and replacing it with a master link have any difference

Because one when you take out one link you actually are takeing out two, so it would be like doing a half link. I think i figured that out correctly.

With the stock length chain, there is about 2" of slack in the chain with the adjustment all the way out. When I add a link... which is really two I guess, and the adjustment all the way in, there is no slack at all. If there are some half links out there, that is what I'll do. I really don't want to risk busting the case if the chain comes off due too much slack.

I was going to go with a 14T front sprocket to do the same thing, so I ordered one, and then found that I couldn't run the case saver.. :( So that isn't happening either.
