what is the difference between a vehicle cam and an atv cam... the reasonni ask this is everyone says i need to break in this cam in my ex and i got to thinkin we raced a 67 camaro for a while and jockied several motors in and out of it and we never had break in on a cam... put it in and hold it balls to the walls, it doesn't really make sense, if it's getting oil its gonna be lubricated, if it isnt getting oil it isn't gonna last 5 seconds anyways so if someone could explain this for me with out and smart***** remarks i would appreciate it

were you using a roller cam in the chevy? they require no breakin...

a standard cam will need proper break in....it has a designed amount of initial wear and running the engine at high rpm or not following proper break in could result in wiping a lobe and making the cam useless.

as heat builds the cam will begin to wear and then afterwards the valves will normally require re adjustment.
