OK i am thinking of buying a truck to fix up and keep as a nice truck. I found a 92 chevy 2500 with the 305 engine good body standard transmission not sure on miles for 2000 list price so i could prolly talk them down. Here is my question if i was to get it i would prollly end up completly rebuilding the engine. And either a plow or lift. Here is my question.
1) HOw much would it cost in parts to rebuild the engine with a bore job pistons agressive cam a port and polish valves ect.. to make the motor preform and sound good? what would the Total be if i was to do all my own work exept bore and polish?
2) Exactly what does it take to rebuild an engine and also a list of parts i would need for the procedure in step 1?
3) Do you think this truck is a good deal if it had say 150000 miles?
Thats all right now thanks im just kinda curious if i should even go look at this truck or not

i wouldnt get it. its really easy to find a truck close to what u listed with a 350 in it. u wouldnt be happy with the 305 nomader what u did to it. to do a solid rebuild yourself with proper machine work, bore/hone, new cam bearings , freeze plugs u would need to rebuild the heads also, valve job, resurfacing if need. u can port and polish the headst yourself pretty easy, there is plenty of books on it. your probly lookin at $600+ in machine work it would cost about 1000-1500 to do it right and get around 300+ hp

Yeah you'd be better just ripping the 305 out and droping a 350 in it or looking for a truck w/ a 350 in it already.

how hard to plop a 350 in that frame

everything will bolt up. 350 and 305 are identical in size and shape. same motormounts same everthing really. only thing that will matter is some heads have difrent bolt holes for ac mounts, altinator mounts but the anybody at the parts store should be able to help u out with that if u know what kind of heads u got

DJ's right. The 305 to 350 swap is probably the easiest motor swap you'll ever do. I did this swap in my 88 Silverado last summer and everything went peachy keen. About the deal on that truck, at 150k i'd hop on that for $2000. Those 3/4 and 1 ton fullsize Chevies will last a long time before giving you any problems to be up in arms about, given it has a clear record of maintenence. For further resources on these trucks, I strongly advise you visit www.fullsizechevy.com (http://www.fullsizechevy.com) . Look for me on the boards as Pickup Man.
