What kind of gains are you getting? any disadvantages? Thanks

I used to use one before my Sparks engine. Great mod. For $15 ya can't beat it. It gave gains all over the gears but mainly on bottom end.

Some people say they made their engine worse but they are just using it wrong because they use it with a High Comp Pistion or a Gasket Kit....

It works great you get really quick throttle responce. The only disadvantage is it creates more heat.

I already have the large capacity oil cooler. What other mods do you need for this to be worth while?

Can you use other mods with this like a drop in cam?

my buddy is using on with a stage 1 hotcam and it runs good. Are you guys saying that the sparks key should only be used with a stock bore/comp engine??

It will run way to hot. The ignition key creates alot of heat in certain areas. Oil coolers and bigger oil tanks do nothing for this heat. The oil does not circulate where the key makes the heat. Do not run it with High Comp Engines. It is not made for that. It will create to much heat added with the heat from the new pistion and your engine with Go KAAAA BOOOOOMMMM

The ignition advance key advances the timing of the motor, which creates more heat. It is a good idea to use higher octane fuel when advancing timing because too much can lead to detonation. The problem with using an advance key along with high compression is that the two create more heat on their own, and together, can be too much. For example, with 11:1 compression and a timing advance key, you definitely would have to run race gas from the combination of increased compression and advanced timing. However, advancing timing in high compression motors usually doesn't work well due to the volatile combination.

Is 93 octane high enough when using just the advance key with no other engine work ?

hmmm my 400ex is still stock, but I have a pipe coming soon! :D but now i'm reminded about this advanced timing key and I'm going to have to do some more searches to see if it's what I want... but the main thing is, on a stock motor with HMF slipon, do you think the advanced timing would cause too much heat at Sand mountain? (desert / 4000' elev / 600' climbs / 90-100 degress F) and or trail riding on hot summer days? I would think it'd be fine on the trails because I only WOT once in a while... but on the dunes it's wide open pretty much 99% of the time... recipe for burnin up the motor? It ran pretty hot last week bone stock, but I never had any problems! Could I just jet it a little on the rich side to keep it in check? BTW, how does this key affect jetting?

hhmmm i'm running the advance key with a 10.9:1 piston and with a thinner head gasket that should put me right at 11:1 and my bike goes like a cat with a corn cob up it's *** i started running it on 93 but it ran to hot to my liking so now i run 3 gallons of 112 to 2 gallons of 93 and now my bike runs cooler than my brothers bone stock bike, just thought i would share my experiences take it for what it's worth :o

Hey mutha - your setup sound like I would like to go to eventually. How much are paying for the 112? Where are you buying it? I don't think I would mind the exta $$ - I just don't know about the extra hassle

it's not to much of a hassel, i've got two gas cans and there's a place right down the road from where i work called perkins they carry the 76 leaded race fuel i put 3 gallons in each can it's 3.25 a gallon so that comes to 19.50 total and then on my way home i just swing into the local bp and finish filling up the cans with 93 and they both last me for probably a month or two that's riding once or twice a week piece of cake
