I was looking at the HMF for my 400EX a while ago, but changed my mind after HMF emailed me a dyno chart comparing their silencer to the stock silencer...virtually no gain at all. Other than that, I have no experience with any of their products.

I can tell you for a fact that the HMF slip-on makes a huge difference down low and mid with a noticeable but not as large gain on the top. My cousin, a member here (Fourstrokefan), has this pipe and I'm just about to order it for my Raptor as well. There was an exhaust shootout article where roughly 20 exhausts were tested. The HMF slip-on was in the top 5 and it even beat the Big Gun full system as well as several others. The top 5 exhausts were all within 1 hp of each other so if it's worth the extra $75 to you, buy the White Bros. or spend even more money and get the Yosh. I'll sacrifice the 1/2 hp and spend $169 on the HMF.

How is the sound level? I like the yoshi because it is 95db and says that loud, unlike the wb that gets all the packing blown out right away.

I can't tell you what the sound levels are, I don't know precise decibel levels. I do know that it's louder than a FMF Megamax II and quieter than another kid's stock silencer that he hacked up.

So its not offensive? How does it compare to say a t-4?

01-02-2002, 03:21 PM
I love my HMF pipe! It produces a great amount of power. Everything Guy660R said above is right on. It sounds almost exactly the same as a T-4, only lower and deeper. The T-4 has a little higher pitch. We raced my bike against an EX almost set up exactly like mine but it had the T-4. My bike won all three races. Trust me you won't be disappointed with the HMF! I just can't say enough about it!

We ride with a guy with a T-4, and it is kinda obnoctious...how ever you spell it. If the hmf is deeper, is it less irritating?

01-02-2002, 06:32 PM
I think so, it sounds more throaty. It is a good, mean sound! It is hard to describe a sound, but I am trying my best. Hope this helps.

The T-4 is very loud. I ride with a guy that has one on his 400ex. It`s close to being as loud as mine. Well, maybe not, but they are really loud.

RideRed04, are you looking to buy a new Pipe?

RideRed04
01-02-2002, 11:38 PM
Ahh, kinda sorta. Im not actively going to get one... dont need it tomorrow, ya know? I'll probably get one in the future, but I need a quiet one that makes decent power. I'm thinking yoshi, but the hmf is starting to sound good, especially the price!

Well I was going to tell you to check out the TC Pipe. If you want quiet it`s not for you. It added awesome power though.

The Yoshi is a good Pipe, the HMF sounds like a very good Pipe and has a very good Price, the FMF Powercore Q wouldn`t be bad for you either. If you got the FMF you could replace the Header down the road with a Powerbomb.

RideRed04

Yeah, that was another road I was thinking. How is the power of the Q with it all stuffed up? It looks ot be a good baffle system.

I don`t have the FMF system, but I know there is a couple of guys on here that do and they like the setup a lot.

Do they come with a spark arestor?

Guy400
01-03-2002, 06:30 PM
You can get it with a spark arrestor.

01-03-2002, 07:55 PM
The last time I checked the only pipe they offered for the 300 had a spark arrestor.

CHEAP pipe for a cheap price my friend got one for his rapter and was not impressed at all it sounds ok you should pay the extra money and get a better pipe from a better company. Not trying to bash but you get what you pay for.

that sounds good, I have a t-4 right now, and it does pretty good, but i like the looks of the HMF because its short and stuff. Plus if its a big quieter then the t-4 but has that low growl to it i'd definitly like it! I need a spark arresstor with it.. cause if we get caught around here without one your *** is grass!! big time!

Its not the tune the bike runs great and I didn't say he did not get improvement but not as much as you would with a REAL pipe from a good brand name not JUST a backyard shop like HMF. Still not trying to bash but this is a joke you people saying that this cheap pipe will compare to the others is so so funny. Maybe ithe DG and cobra but the better names will leave them in the dust. SORRY

Patrick you are what's funny and you are the joke. You need to wake up and do some research before you start making those kind of statements. I just spent a while replying to you on the other "HMF" thread in this section, PLEASE go there and read it. I am not going to waist my time typing it all again.

Just tell me this, Why is the HMF making more horsepower than these "REAL PIPES" that you speak of? You have no idea because you don't know the first thing about HMF! PLEASE everyone go to the other "HMF" thread in this section and read my last reply!

I replies to the other hmf and I have researched all the pipes out there and just because your broke and bought the cheapest pipe out there do not think its the best out there UNTIL you do the research. Laters

There's just no arguing with that kind of logic. I am just no match for your superior intellect. At any rate that article (you know the one that I mentioned where the HMF slip-on placed in the top 5) used to be posted on here. You wouldn't know that though since you have only been a member now for 2 months. I guess that those guys who wrote that article were just lying. Thanks for pointing that out for me.

Laters  Ive read both of the hmf forums and I gotta ask...What is the best pipe, all of us here would like to know?,and you seem to have all the answers, so tell us, lets us hear about ALL of your research. And i had to laugh when you called everyone broke because they bought a HMF:D because thats hardly the truth ,because they now have a GOOD pipe and still have MONEY in their wallets so you cant say that their broke now can ya...:blah

Speaking of superior intellect....;) .....j/k

Anyway, I have ordered a Yoshi pipe from Marcum's but it wasn't in stock so it won't be here until next week. I will post a review as soon as I can to let you all know how it performs for me. I will be installing a K&N power kit to go with it too. But the Yoshi is not cheap, it cost 249.00 (it only comes with a spark arrester now). The only thing is is that it will be the first pipe i've owned, so it would be hard to compare...L8R

What exhaust do you run, Patrick?

patrick delao

How many pipes have you guys owned? I mean like you bought a FMF and that got old afer 2 years or so then buy a diffrent one? some thing like that or what

01-12-2002, 07:51 PM
I recently received a HMF pipe for my 400ex that I had ordered. It was shipped (polished) for $200. It got here when they said it would, it looks great, and the major mags showed that it ranked in the top five, even over Big Gun. I don't know what else to say. It looks like someone paid too much for their pipe and regrets it.

any pipe you get will give you more power, maybe a 1/2 a hp or 7 hp, it all depends. I have a megamax 2 complete system with a air filter and jet kit. i love my bike. I am also ordering (on order now) a 14t sproket.
