my cable internet runing very slow!!!PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Ok my cable internet that is supost to be super fast.Is runing relly slow.Well after a few days i had my mom calladelphia and they took her to this site called toast.net to see how fast are internet was runing loaded 1,754,674bytes in 5.61 seconds.Now what ever that means.But it ran pretty fast after.Now it's back to runing slow!!! I cleared my history i don't know what to do!!!Please help it's runing as slow as my old internet that was dail up! thanks

You may have a bunch of programs running that you are not aware of.

Go to start, click run, type in msconfig and hit the enter key. This will bring you a new window. On that window, click on the tab that says startup. It will show you all of the programs that automatically start when your computer starts. Many of them ar not needed.

Now, decide which ones you don't need running and unclick the little boxes next to them.

Also are you definitly using cable or dsl.... Just asking because Adelphia only offers dsl in my area. If it is dsl sometimes it does get bogged down.

Modems go bad, mine did. Got very slow.

Adelphia cable service su**$ ! Most of the time here it's not much better than dialup. Customer service is nonexistent and they were just so nice as to raise their rates again.:mad:

Ok guys i shut my computer down all night and just got home from school.Now my internet is runing fast again but it will get slower the longer i let it on.I found all the cookies i think i don't know how to delete the.

Ok guys sorry i found oOk i found out how to delete the cookies.Now there is a thing when you go in there it says like cookie:cindy@www.highlifter.com/ Which i know cindy means the file name thing that i sighn up on on my moms name.But never mind that iis that what the cookies are and you delete them?Do you want to delete all of those or what i need some help?

Ya here's what i did i went to internet options,general,settings,and then to veiw files and thats where i found them all.You where right i did have to relog into all the forums.But is that what you do?I deleted all of those f***ing cookies!!!It seems like it's runing faster now.

I have comcast cable at home, and it has done that to me before...The first time it did, I called them. They told me to unplug it from the cable line in the wall, and plug it back in:huh Well, I did it, and it fixed it...got me

Earlier it was stated to disable your startup programs.
Start -> Run -> msconfig -> startup -> uncheck everything except your virus protection program (NAVagent) and systray. -> Apply -> OK -> it will ask you to restart, click YES.

If the connection works fine after the pc is restarted then the connection diminishes the longer the pc is on, then programs running in the back ground are probably causing your problem.

I am pretty sure mine is a t4 line.ya i did some stuff my friends dad told me too it's all runing fast again.Thank you all for the help.Now i just got to install that new internet explorer.My friend dad said that might make it alittle fasterhe is going to do it some time.But now i see how you guys or some one from a driff forum was saying go to delete cookies.I had to do mine a driff way because i have the older internet explorer.
