Anybody ever skipped over water on their quad? I think there was a shot of a Banshee doing it on Huevos 3. Any tips on what to do and what NOT to do?

Thanks for the tips!

i've done it a few times. heres a couple pointers,
number one- go as fast as you possibly can! don't let off either just keep it hammered. also its important that you keep your front end light. i like to slam my butt down on the back of the seat and blip and yank up the bars right before i tough the water. if your front tires dig into the water then yours done for. its really scary but its fun too!

when you say fast are you talking 5 gear pinned? Does it try to lurch you forward?

Paddle tires?

Do not at all cost let your front end drop at all..

It will be a tumble-fest

depending on the size of the crossing, that tells you what gear you need to be on. for mine i was in 4th gear pinned i think but it coulda been 5th. i was just giving it all i could give, and i suppose thats the way you should always go. but see it works like this- you could skip water in 2nd gear if your crossin somethin small enough, your tires spinning fast is what gives you the floatation, but you moving fast, or your momentum, is what helps you pass the water cuz you don't reallly get very much "traction" on the water. so when you hit something you need to be able to have enough momentum to cross it all! paddle tires will give you a lot more push across the water but their not needed. i was using my stock tires that were already pretty bald. just pin it and go, you can think about it all day long but you won't know if you can do it until you try it.

You can do smaller ponds in 3rd gear. You want to be leaned back over the seat. Make sure the enterence is fairly smoth and even. Make sure there is no wake on the water, thats when broken collorbones happen:o

A warning-High speed crashes on water are extremely brutal to rider and machine.

Also, I heard you want to have the pressure in ALL your tires the exact same?!?!!?

i do it all the time, i try to at least hit it in 4th but for smaller ones i think 3rd will be ok, i just slide to the back of the seat to let the front end lighten up, and i hit it pinned, just like everyone else said dont let the front drop, but thats only in deep holes, practice in shallow ones first

I've seen guys puddle jummping on snowmobles and quads with quads you can't turn but with snowmobles you have to cross turn and lean in to it! heck guys even puddle jump with jeeps the mane thing is to have momentum up (speed) and have the front end slightly higher than the back now I just neeed to find a pond that ant 7feet deep (best to start with 1-2 feet deep water) and if you don't have a airbox get B for you try this fine way of riding
have fun:blah

ive done it a few times. main thing is just dont let the front end down or you will regret it. it doesnt matter how deep the water is if you let the front end down your done with.

I have seen it done on a sportsman 700 its pretty sweet lookin.. I have done it on my dads snowmobile. With 172 picks tho and a big *** track and skis so fourwheelers are quite alot different.

I have done it a few times... Just keep the weight on the back, leave some power for after you hit the water, then open it up, don't try turing, and good luck!

What's really scary is gettin sideways while on the water...or when it starts shakin back and forth really bad.

I was doing it for about 75 feet on my 400, with paddles. 5th gear pinned. I kept workin it farther and farther, and pretty soon I didnt have the speed to make it. It just kept slowin down, and I kept it pinned, and it just kinda sunk in about a foot of water at 20 mph or so. I got a bit wet...to say the least. :o

yea chef that is sooo scary when your back end is all side ways and then your just like holding on for anything just so you dont flip. i was doing it across open water on a frozen lake that was like 20 feet deep if i fell in by by quad and hello hypo thermia

If anyone of you have watched H2 or even H3, you can see exactly what they do. In H2, the first run, the guy leaned forward accidently and ended up tumbling into the lake. It worked out good for the second run though. It was pretty insane.

I've practiced on some deep (7in), long (15ft) puddles and its really a blast. Like Chef said, if you end up doing it right, what really gets scary is if the quad starts shifting sideways. I had my quad pinned 6th and coasted across the 15ft puddle with ease.

its alright just hit it in a gear that you'll be able to keep the revs up to keep the tires spinning fast, i did this one 4th gear, i tried 5th but it was to high of gear
