Carb Tubes Anyone?

On the top of my carb there are two black small tubes that come out, one is connected to the carb and one just has one side connected...are they both soposed to be connected to the carb from both sides?? Or is one sort of like an over flow?

They aren't supposed to be connected. I don't have my bike in front of me but I think there are 2 hoses on top. I know that one of them isn't connected because it's a vent/overflow/vacuum(1 of the 3). I can't remember if the other is supposed to be connected or not...

the one that is not connected slips in the the snorkle under the gas tank. It is the vent for the float bowl :D
