The only thing I want on my 400ex is liquid cooling. I could care less for reverse. I just get off and pull/push. But I will usually just spin the tires to get it to come around faster. I ride my 400ex hard and I havent broken a sub-frame. Although I thought I did when I was wheeling in 5th gear ( came right back onto the grabbar) Thank fully it didnt crack or bend. If I wasnt on pavement I would have been in for a pretty good wipe out. Oh well I learned from that one, and now I am scared *****less to do high speed wheelies.

another bad thing about the 400 is the disc hub in the back, just about every 400 ive seen has a crack or several cracks in them. I had to buy a new one, 70 bucks :(

The worst thing about my 400ex is that I never have enough time to ride it as much as I would like... :(

no problems with the subframe here, and some abuse and a endo at southwick

the biggest problem i've had is cracking the frame and blowing head gaskets

So instead of doing a cheap wheelie and relying on the grab bar to save you from rolling back, just do a proper one... I can't imagine that it would be easy to bust a sub frame...

no kick starter and no reverse

05-22-2003, 02:27 PM
having no reverse makes me a better rider...i wouldn't mine having it though i guess....I didn't let that make the deciding factor for me to buy the z/kfx400 or the ex. I figured I didn't want a first year quad so I got the honda. Plus, honda lasts longer.

Me and my friend Jon always ride, and there are some parts i can make it out easily with reverse, while I haveta wait a good 3 minutes for Jon to get the bike turned around and get goin.

Thats the only thing I woulda changed, but everything else seems pretty good.

i've had my 400ex for about 2 years now and i've set it on the wheelie bar on 3rd gear wheelies and put it through some hard hits and i've never had any problems with it.

Mine has held up great. A few weeks ago my bike got away from me on a hill and hit nuetral. It went backwards downhill and plowed grab bar first into a tree doing at least 30-35mph. It didn't bend a thing, just put a little crack under the plastics where the seat is. I was very impressed I thought my grab bar was gone, but it looks as good as ever.
