Hey,
I am thinking about buying a used suzuki qudracer 250r and modifying for mx.
And i was wondering if anyone new of any companys that make a-arms for the quadracer(preferably long travel), and which company is the best. And if pep, elka, tcs etc. made shocks for them.
Which pipe is the best for all around power?
Would i do alright with the amount of horsepower a stock engine(other than pipe and filter) puts out? Or would i need to get it ported and bored out to like 265cc's?
Do you think that a modified quadracer with long travel suspension and good zps shocks could be competitive with honda 250r's 400ex's etc?

Ballistic Atv

The reason i am thinking about going this route is because i can buy a used 89 quadracer for under 700 dollars, and i will have another 3,000 dollars to modify it.
If i buy a 250r i will not have any money left over to modify it.
So, do you think there is a better way about building a moto x ready bike for under 4,000 dollars?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.:D

I used to own a 92 LT250 and it had a LOT of power . Best bet for LT a-arms is probably High Speed Dirt in Manitoba Canada . I'm 99% sure he makes long travel for the Quad racer. I had an LRD pipe and silencer and found it to work awesome for all around power. The stock power from the engine is alright but I'd bore it out if I were you. Before I did any other work to my engine ( was bore 0.020 over )I was hanging with modded banshees. After I got it all over hauled and punched out more , this bike was untouchable . Elka makes suspension for the bike , PEP also and Axis .

yeah hsd (strong arm) is the only company i can think of that would make LT a-arms for the LT (stupid pun i know). they are pretty nice so check em out

I went to hsd's website and checked out there long travel a arms, they look like they are built really well.
I also saw a kit they had to weld on the front portion of a honda 250r frame, so that it adds rake to the aarms.
Now, my question is, is it worth the money to do that front end conversion after getting the long travel a arms? Or would it handle just fine without it?
Also, is maier the only company that makes aftermarket fender for the lt?
Is there any way to change the look of the front part of the fenders?
I think if i got long travel shocks i would go with the peps because they are much cheaper than the elkas, and i dont mind waiting a couple months.

hey juggalo,
Which quad do you prefer?
Your old lt?
Or your 400ex?

i'd have to say i like the EX better. the LT was faster but thats about it. she was a peice tho, if it had been nicer the story might be different. don't get me wrong tho i loved that quad! i'd love to get another one too. the 250r weld on is trick no doubt and probably worth it but i dunno if i would go through with it. HSD makes independant rear suspension kits for quads too! the owner actually has an LT250 that he races with IRS.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that the rake weld on thing is for the 85-86 LT. I had one earlier this year that I rebuilt and it had no rake at all. It was an 85, and I know some big changes hit in 87(swingarm, some engine stuff, etc.). If I was looking to buy one, I would try not to buy an 85 or 86, there is next to nothing for them in the means of modifications.

I would definitely pick up that 89, sounds like you have a good deal of moo-lah to play with.:macho

the front end geometry is pretty much the same on all year quadracers. they eventually moved the shock mounts and changed the shocks but that was about it.

How does a quadracer handle jumps stock?
Does it fly level?
How is the bottom end torque and power compared to a 250r? compared to a 400ex?
How does the stock suspension handle jumps and woops?(i am not going to be leaving it stock, i just want an idea of how it iwith stock suspension)
Would i do fine with a pep zps rear shock rebuild? Does pep even rebuild these rear shocks? Or would i be better off just buying a new pep zps shock for the rear?
Does AC make pro peg nerfbars for the quadracer?
How wide is a stock quadracer 250r?
Which companies make NON-long travel a-arms for the quadracer?

Any other things I should consider when modifying a quadracer for mx/freestyle?

Get Elkas or at least Ohlins all around. Plus a Dominator axle.
A LRD adjustable exhaust with the LRD engine kit with 38mm carb and cool head, Boysen Rad Valve, LRD Heavy Duty Clutch kit and cable holder, Gafler brake rotors fornt and rear with some new brake pads and Gafler steel braided brakelines. Top it off with a set of aftermarket bars Renthal or whatever, DG Nerf bars, a DG bumper with swingarm and chassis skid plates and a anti vibe steering stem, K&N filter with outewears, throw on some Hiper front and rear rims with some Razr 2s and then to top it all off add some Maier Silver plastic with race front and finaly a sidewinder chain and sproket kit to get all that power to the wheels.

Most of the above mentioned parts can be found here:
http://www.rockymountainatv.com/
http://www.lrdperformance.com/catalogmenu.htm go to LT250R

Not what this all adds up to but with your long travel front end and a-arms it should burn up that 3000 real quick. But prepare to have one of the baddest 250s around!!! And if it bores you bore it and go for LRD's 310 kit

Good looking Quadracer. I've been to about 100 mx races over the last couple of years and have seen only one LT 250R and one LT 500R. These quads have seemed to vanish over the years from the mx tracks even though they were made for 8 model years. Thats twice aslong as the Honda 250R. I would like to see more, especially like this one.

i went on hdsracing.com and i cant find the lt a-arms for the quadracer 250r. i have a 86 and im building it for mx and i need long travel a-arms and rather buy ones made for it then moding other a-arms and the frame. i emailed them twice and they never got back to me. idk what to do about the a-arms now. im getting the invaild product or inavalible sign.

My buddy used to have an LT250, you can get the motors to run really well if set up right but it still never handled near as well as my 250R! The 250R was ALOT more reliable, it seemed like there was always stuff breaking on his, from motor parts to even the chassis! If I was you I would take the 3K you want to invest in the LT250 plus the 800 and buy a nice 250R! After you dump all the money into the LT it will still be a Suzuki LT250 which has crap for resale and they are not half the bike compared to an R for handling, even modded out!!! There is a reason why most of the riders chose to ride the 250R and why the companies still build aftermarket frames trying to replicate the geometry of the 250R chassis, because it is bar none the best handling in the market, still to this day!!

I HAVE MY REAR TIRES AT 25 PSI (SINCE REBUILD) SO I DO NOT DESTROY MY BASKET. THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH LT250'S WHEN ANY HP WAS ADDED. THOSE F-IN HINSON BASKETS ARE SO EXPENSIVE FOR A PIECE OF METAL. I RATHER HAVE THE REAR TIRES SPIN DURING NORMAL TRAIL RIDING THAN SMOKE A CLUTCH. WHEN I DRAG SOMEONE I DROP THEM TO 4 PSI AND START IN SECOND(WHILE CROSSING THE FINGERS).

I'd like to take the 500/250 for a spin. I had a 500 with a CGR motor and it was all I could do to hange on to it in the big 500 frame. When it blew up I swapped to a stock cylinder. I bet that this is unbelievable. If you could get HSD to put the 250R front-end on it, it would be like the Outlaw 500 frame.

So when you get the hot rod crank and connecting rod. I was told you need to get a longer jug and special piston and rings. Or your piston will hit the head and wreck it is that true or do you use your stock jug and everything?

The Hot Rod crank and connecting rod are same specs as stock. I put that in my LT about 6 years ago, had no probs.

Ditto, I am running hot rods setup in my LT , they fit like stock....It sounds almost like your thinking about the long rod setup for trx250r's that needed spacers under the jug?
