important!!!! 400ex question

I have a question about my brothers 400ex. When he first starts it up it starts ticking. But after it gets warmed up it doesnt do it anymore. It has been doing it ever since he got it and we took it to the honda shop and they said all the new ones made that ticking noise. And aslo it is not the valves because we had adjusted them and it still does it.

Are you sure its not more of a winding noise, like something turning? I noticed mine and my bro's do it too.:huh

i think thats the decompressor, mine does that too, if it hasnt warmed up good enough it idles too low

Decompressor for sure. Mine rattled from new and the local dealer put a complete cam, decompressor setup in to fix it under warrnty.
They tell me it won't hurt anything. just sounds bad.

Mine ticked when it had an exhaust leak at the head......but it didn't go away when it got warm, so that's probably not worth checking....so...nevermind....:)
