View Full Version : Tough Decision

I am faced with a very tough decision. I am selling my quad soon as soon as I fix some very minor things on my quad. I was waiting for the 450ex to come out but that wont be for some time. My friends have mostly all turned Suzuki and gotten the Z400s and KFX400s. The 400ex just doesn't have the balls that they do, although I like the way the 400exs suspension rides much better. I can't get a 450z because it will probaly have a glitch the first year and is a yamaha. I was thinking about getting a banshee, but im not too sure. Right now I barely have any money but will be rolling in it as soon as I start work.:devil

Here are some choices I thought of...
A) Get a brand new 400ex, get maybe shocks maybe a 440 kit.
B) Get a brand new z400 and put pipe, filter, jets, remove air box, and offset wheels.
C) Wait for the 450 to come out...

I have a budget of about 6500, but my dad is a ***** about letting me put stuff on my quad. The advantage of the 450 is that it wouldnt need motorwork, etc, but will most likely be pretty steep pricewise. What do you guys think I should do?

You don't necesarily have to turn suzuki. Polaris' Predator is looking like a nice bike right now itself and if you're not worried about the out of business part, very mildly used Cdales can be found with record low prices. Both should have more than enough power to make a suzuki cry. I wouldn't mind trying a Yami either, but they have never had luck with first year runs. Hope this helps and good luck with whichever way you go.

if your going to get a new bike and you dont want to wait for the 450ex or the yammi get a pred, ask the dealer to put rezzies on it and get a trinity pipe, like tina did:D, and u can shave weight off slowly so it wont be so heavy. i love preds and would but one in a heartbeat if i had 6 grand

like he said you can buy a quad but you cant buy skill. in a quarter mile dragrace i can beat a guy on a cannondale speed on not really hard but not to soft... um like potting soild when you pack it down a little i dunno. i beat him not by mutch. about a tire length. back and forth we raced and i amost all the time got him by a little. hes like what done to that im hehe stock with a k&n

and hes on a 440 feul injected. im about 115 he was 125 130. and there was a 1996 cr 125 with alot of stuff done to it running 50 to 1 raced a yz 250 with just a pipe jetting and filter. and he got smoked by my friends 125. most riding is skill. doesnt matter with power. show them up do sumthing they cant. hehe ride a wheelie. they wont be able to do them and be running back to honda. :devil

there was a thread on here awhile ago.. it was a bunch of people arguing which was better a z400 or a 400ex. and everyone thought the z400. it has more power more suspention travel. better shocks. but one thing that a honda has that anyother quad dusnt have is stability and turning like a 400ex.

and 400ex are also more reliable and can have more stuff done to them and it costs less to buy the parts. and there lighter. mod the 400 till she dont mod no more. youll be handing them there asses in no time.

valves - rockerers - valve springs - pipe - ignition - suspention - high comp piston - bore job - tires and you have them junk z400 eaten. with about $2000 in it and that pays up for the price difference from the dealer.

The problem with doing this might be once you did all that crap, the Z could get a pipe and you'd be beat again.

Just mod the 400 you have now.

If I did that I would probaly just buy a new 400 and get all the essantials. After a few years of abuse, they dont handle and respond the same.... PLUS the plastics are shinny:devil
