Hey does anyone know if you can put the auto-decompression and hot start system from the new YZF450 on a earlier model YZF426? And will a 450 head fit on the 426? I am liking the YZ a lil more because its a DOHC, but I just dont want the hassle of stalling it out and not bein able to restart it...

I am not sure of any of that...but I heard, you have to run around it three times, scratch your left butt cheek, and whistle dixie to get it to start after you stall it.


In another words, I have heard they are really a pain to get restarted.

Stalling is not a problem on the bike, nor is starting.

You have to do a 2 small mods. Read my post entirely.

It is not worth the hassle and money I think to put a 450 head on it, IF it will even work.

A 450 head will not fit on an old yz426 case. Totally different.

you can however put the yz450 exhaust cam in the 426 motor....and then plug the hole for the decompression lever. the cam is what has all the decompression stuff on it... only other thing you have to do it install titanium exhaust valves so they will hold up to the high lift cam. cam is about $150 and valves are like 100 each...call dean at fastway...he told me about it... i just didnt want to spend that money right now....

Thumper talk has a very long and detailed thread about this very topic. The answer is yes, but you need to read that thread for all the answers.

The gist of the answer is yes you can put a YZ 450 exhaust cam it your 426, the cam does have all the decomp stuff on it.

hotcams is supposed to have a cam out this summer that will have the decomp stuff on it as well.

I was very close to doing this mod on my buds 426quad, but I think we are gonna wait on the Hotcam.
