400ex smokes slightly

i have recently noticed that my 400 smokes white smoke when i let off to change gears. is this a serious sign? also what may be a factor is that my spark plug was so old that i had to remove it a sand it down to get it to run this last time i rode. so what does everyone think? is this normal? will changing the plug correct it? thanks in advance, danny

Did you rejet after you put on your pipe? If you didn't you probably burnt your rings and that is why it's smoking. You are probably going to have to replace your rings. You should have changed that plug for a new one to if it was that bad.

Most EX's I've seen smokes abit when reving it out.
