i dont have one but atvsport said that it was faster than the 250ex but had a shorter wheelbase but it was wider making it better for the track. sounds like a good beginer quad.

yea, z250 is supposed to be a pretty nice starter for younger kids. my friend (who is 15:rolleyes: ) has a 250ex and the thing's a piece. i hate it, i rolled it once because of the twist throttle on it, it stuck and i ran into a tree and rolled down a hill, bending the axle. yea, if you are 13 or above, go with something a little bit better....like a yamaha blaster...

Those z250s are ugly though.

I agree go with a Blaster or a 300ex.

Thanks for the replies. That ATV connection review really pumps the Z250 up, basically saying it is the fastest, best jumping, best handling 250 out there. My older son is moving up from a modified LT80 soon. I'm not sure I agree with the Z250 is ugly comment. I think it looks pretty cool.

Keep the opinions coming.......

ATV Sport did a shoot out a while back with the 250EX against the Suzuki Ozark. The Ozark won, and even won in the drag race. The newest issue of ATV Sport says the Z250 has 10% more power than the Ozark so it should be a great beginners bike. Go check one out in person and draw your own conclusions.;)

My local dealer has both the 250ex and Z250 in stock. After I sell my Recon and Bayou I'm going to buy one of them. Since it is for my 12 year old son I guess I'll have to test ride them {stupid CSPC rules} to see which one is best. Maybe since I've bought 4 quads from these folks we can sneak around back and let my son ride them both and go with what he says. :) He fits perfectly in size and skill level on either the 250ex or Z250, how stupid that they can't legally let him on those quads for a test ride! It will most likely be mid June {goin' on vacation}when I can sell the 2 ute quads and buy a new one, but I will post back what observations we make on a side by side ride of both 250s. :D

I hear ya. I'll have to pretend I'm buying it for myself. I'm such a bad parent, LOL.

I just bought a 250EX for my son. I wondered about the Z250 but what if it has the same frame cracking problem as the Z400? You can't beat a Honda for reliability and quality.

I had a chance to look over a Z-250 the other day and I was impressed. The welding looked a little sloppy but strong and well put together. It felt good and comfortable even for me {6'}. It was parked next to a Z-400 and was very close in size. I loved the under seat storage box, just like the Ozarks and the seat felt great. The stock grips are garbage and hard as rocks. It has the same rims but different tires {same size} as the 400 too. I still don't understand why Suzuki and Honda couldn't have kept the back-up pull start on the EX and Z. What a pain to start if the battery takes a dump! The 250ex is a fantastic quad as the Recon is, but the Z-250 makes it look very dated and "old tech". When I get back from Tennessee I'll take a test spin! :D

JMO but Pull start sucks... I don't understand why they wouldn't just put kick start back ups! My 300 has kick start and it starts easy and almost every time first kick...

The Z250 does look like a pretty nice quad, and from the review I have read in mag's its a pretty good quad.

Kinda dumb aint it?
The 250ex has a plate blocking off the area where the Recon has a pull start. The Z-250 could have easily used the Ozark pull start feature too. Woulda looked a little funky on the Z-250 but you would have hardly noticed the pull start on the 250ex. I can't make any sense of it. Weight savings maybe?? Pull start saved my butt a couple of times on my utility quads and manual clutch quads are easy to push start. The auto clutch quads would be a pain to push start. Maybe I should get a job designing ATVs--that would be a blast!:D

The 250ex doesn't have a twist throttle from the factory and that's why. Quad's are much more dangerous with twist throttles.
