I have recently just bought a 440 kit and I was wondering if I have to do anything else to it to make it run right.

I mean If I juss put the kit in and leave all the stock rocker arms, cam, valve springs, valves, ect, ect In will it run good still?

What kit did you buy? Wiseco piston?

If all you do is the 440 kit you should be fine. Don't worry about your rockers until you do a cam. Then that will depend on the type of cam and if you put in a spring kit also.
If you do a cam, carb and the rest you will no doubt see more power. However, you can alway add that later. ;)

Your going to se minimal gains with just the kit the real key is your cam and porting THAT will give you impressive gains.

Running the kit alone is fine. Like oynot400 said, once you add them cam and orther goodies you'll see more and more power gains out of your 440. I went the same route and I now have an XR cam and porting, pipe, etc. Much better now.

wiseco doesnt make true pistons so that aint good...and for the cam i would go with the hotcam stage 2

The Wiseco 440 piston is a flat top (last time I checked), and if you just install the kit as is, you won't get 11:1 compression ratio. You'll have to have the cylinder decked, and use XR gaskets (they're thinner) to get close. If you haven't installed it, my advice would be to send it back, buy a JE piston kit, an oversized sleeve from LA Sleeve, and a Cometic XR440 gasket set with a steel laminate head gasket, and have it installed. You won't pay much more than buying the kit, and you will get a true 10.8:1 CR. I run a Wiseco, but the compression problem only pertains to the 440 piston (my 416 piston is domed).

yeah wiseco sizes are kinda screwy IMO. I recently had my R bored and on the wiseco box its supposedly a 66.50 piston but when measured its a 66.45 or something, so if the machinest didnt check that and just bored it to 66.50 i would have been screwed ;)

But the kit come with a 89mm piston, rings, circlips, ect, 440 gaskets, and a la sleeve. But will I have to bored my sleeve out or will it come with the 440 bored already installed?

You would have all the same stuff, you would just buy things individually, instead of in a kit. The JE piston kit includes pin, circlips, and rings. The gasket kit would be better because you could buy the set with a steel head gasket, the kit comes with a fiber one that people have had trouble with. As far as the sleeve goes, it would be the identical one that comes in the kit. You have to have the stock one pressed out, have the cylinder bored, and have the new one pressed in anyway, kit or no kit. You only spend a few more bucks, and you end up with a much stronger motor.

Search for a old thread titled "have you decked the cylinder" started by oynot I believe :)

It answers all your questions in some detail.

if I have a pro circuit exhaust, twin air filter, and it's jetted, PLus ported. will I see a whole lot more power when i out the 440 kit in?

when you put in the 440 kit you do not necessarily NEED to do anything else. All you NEED to do is take the motor apart. Install the new kit components. And do minor things like put the motor back together, jet it accordingly, and break it in.

NOW, what you CAN/WOULD/SHOULD do is build your own kit.

The Wiseco piston kit is not very accurate and the gaskets are sub par if you ask a majority of the original kit users on this board.

You can buy all the parts seperatley on your own(from ANY of the people that sponser this board) from maybe 50$ more, if that.
The quality and accuracy will be better for the little effort spent.

On top of building this 440 kit there multiple options you can add for increased power.

A cam: You need to decide what type of riding style suits you best. Do you ride tight woods using very little throttle or maybe in short bursts? if so you want a low end cam(stage 1,xc)

Do you ride tight trails, but also hit the mx track and tend to rev the egine a little higher ? then you want a rev cam(stage 2,mx)

on top of this depending on the cam you may need to get rockers and/or springs.

A high quality air filter/opening up the airbox/jetting/and exhaust are also options to increase power along with taper the bike to your riding style.

porting/carb/suspension.... the list goes on.

But with a basic 440 kit you just need to put it back together and rejet the carb. anything adding to this will just make it better.

Although I highly suggest a new higher flowing air filter and at least a sklip silencer(you may be noise conscious?)

good luck
