I'm tired of replacing the soft cylinder head cover bolts. Can anyone tell me the size of the long bolts and the thread size. Does anybody know where to get better replacement bolts.
I looked them up a service honda and they are 6x118 what is the thread pitch?

i dunno where ya can find some new ones, but try using a 1/4" rachet when you tighten them down, and you just have to snug them and they'll last forever the problem is overtightening them it's not that there too soft and cheap

Your right, It's just that I have had this motor apart a few times and the threads are mucked up.

Tony there 6mmX1mm that is the size an pitch I just purchase a new set of them from the local dealer not cheap for a full set. I was looking on e-bay once and ther was somebody selling a full set of screws for the engine out of stainless I think that would be a good idea. Jimmy

I believe the pitch is 1.25 but I am not positive. Dang metric system. We need coarse, regular, and fine. And any ol person can tell them apart.

I have one of the cover bolts on my desk at the moment and a thread pitch gauge in my hand and it's 1mm pitch. Jimmy

The only place I found that sold those kind of bolts we're honda and they are around 5$ each.... So when mine broke, I bought a new harden bolt that would fit threw the top of the cyclinder head. Used some jb weld type stuff in the hole of the head and stuck the bolt in(let it dry and everything). Put the cyclinder head back on and used a nut on top.

I Heli-coiled all of mine. They all stripped over time. But it was the threads in the head, not the bolt. I have all the original bolts.

I can't believe how many people over tighten everything! Relax and just snug them ! Why do you think Honda put so many bolts on the cover ? Answer so you don't have to tighten them so much !

The thread size is 6 X 1.00 For sure !

I see the problem a lot and mine had it when I got it from the previous owners motor work etc.

Seems its the longer ones most times and there tapped into the cylinder and guess who forgot to helicoil them during the last rebuild :)

I have cheap clicker type torque wrenches that I try to talk most of my friends into cause to many think they have to tighten everything to death. One guy was so bad he snapped the subframe bolt in half on his yami installing frame guards/protectors. :eek2:

If I remember correctly its only 8 or 12ft lb on those 8mm ones.

Actually the torque spec is in inch pounds 17 i believe:)

17 ft lbs is for the one 8 mm bolt in the middle of the head cover! You will strip the others if you go that tight ! The 6mm bolts are 6.5 ft lbs that is not that tight ! Be careful!
