Roy Denner from ORBA (www.orbanet.org) was in Washington D.C. last week to lobby our representatives regarding off-road issues throughout the country. While there, he took the opportunity to meet with 17 Congressional office representatives, BLM officials, and Craig Manson, Assistant Secretary of the Interior in charge of Fish and Wildlife and Parks. All of the meetings included a briefing on the situation at Sand Mountain (more detail -> http://www.sandmountain-nv.org/smra_emergency_closure.htm).

Here are a few highlights:

Congressman Jim Gibbons (R-NV) represents almost all of Nevada with the exception of the Las Vegas & Laughlin area. Roy was able to sit down with Sandra Keil who is Congressman Gibbons' legislative assistant. Ms. Keil was very interested in the situation since Sand Mountain is one of the largest recreation draws in the state. If would be good for Congressman Gibbons to hear from users of Sand Mountain (and other public lands in Nevada for that matter). He can be reached at:

Roy also met with Craig Manson, Assistant Secretary of the Interior in charge of Fish and Wildlife and Parks. Mr. Manson was also very interested in learning about the justification for any closures without proper science to back it up.

A big thanks to ORBA for fighting for our right to Dune!
