Ok not to start a brawl or bring this topic up again, but finally I got 4 differrent air filters on 400ex's on the same ride same conditions, the filters were a twin air, uni, stock and k&n. it was a day of riding and it was dusty, all stock motors just different pipes though, but we want filter test, all were dirty and the foams were the worst do to the sticky oil, but all the air boots were clean at the end and the foams were newer filters the k&n was at least a year old.

__________Oiled foam (TwinAir,UNI)...........Oiled Gauze (K&N)

Large particle efficiency_____5...........................4
Small particle efficiency ____ 5...........................2
Airflow capacity ___________5...........................5
Dust holding capacity ______4............................2
Load up characteristic _____ 4...........................1
Backfire characteristic _____ 3...........................3
Cleanability _______________4.......................... 3

<This table is from an independent lab. Tests were done using SAE J726C. Test Method 5-best --> 1-worst.

Try a re-test like the magazines perform by lining the carb air boot with a fine coating of vaseline. After the test wipe with a clean white rag - you may be surprized how much fine dust the K&N passes. The air boots were clean on your test because the grit went on through! :eek2:

If you want to know how much dirt your air filter is allowing into the engine, you might want to try having your oil analyzed. It will tell you how much silica there is, and if it is too much.

sorry if it sounded screwed up, it sounded better in my head, but the simple point was everyone debates K&N's but there was no dust in the air boots when used under the same conditions

Ive had K&N's in everything Ive ever owned. I always have great luck with the clamp on style. The one in my Predator and my truck are the "flat type" They both allow dust through around the seals.

When changing the oil on my truck, I wipe the turbo inlet and fins with a cloth. (dirt) :grr
