If you put new wheels and tires on you can shave off some weight. You get better traction and save weight;)

I guess I am just trying to get an idea of what you guys actually get them to

Like for racing or high jumping or drag I guess

I am curious as to how much weight can be saved ....if one wanted to

all the lil things add up obviously , so you save some with lighter tires/rims, lighter swing arm, arms, etc...

But then we tend to add stuff like Nerfs, bumpers, larger tanks .....

Like I said, just looking for an idea of a 'Light' 400ex

well if you goign to race take otu the head light, cut fenders, paking break, get lighter exhasut, take off heel gaurd that might get it down to 375 wet. if your goign to drag it, hell take off all the fenders, get 2 ply tired and thin wheels, take otu the air box, get a little like 1/2 or 1 gallon tank , take off skids, exhaust, you might get it down to 350 wet

take off a bunch of stuff, like the airbox, tail-light, parking brake, and cut off some minor mounts and stuff off your frame and if your drag racin, remove your front brakes and really start hackin and the frame. performance pipes also usually weigh less.

ware did you read that?? dirtwheels or atv action? hahaha. Don't take anyhting them stupid mags say. The only one i half assed trust is atv sport. Dirtwheels and atv action say the dumbest crap I've ever heard. Actualy most race atvs will wiegh more after a few mods. Like a 400ex with the weigt reductions. and then a longer axle and a arms shocks ect. you'l probly be over the original weight. And the manufactureres claimed dry weight is sometimes bogus too.

well the engine is the heaviest thing on the bike, so why dont you just remove that:macho

Just do what all the 2 stroke draggers do in Glamis.. Take off front brakes, rear parking brake, drill holes in the frame, drill holes in the wheels, take off front bumper, take off anything not needed, no nerfs, no lights, lighter custom subframes, lightest wheels & paddles available....

yah a quad frame that looks like its been sprayed with bullets wont hold up good in MX. lol those are drag quads and thats fine for them cause they dont take abuse like any other riding.

and lsr titanium frame should hold up very well since its titanium! that stuff is some friggen hard to bust up when done right. i dont think youll see to many of those breaking

thats what i was thinking....and hypers wont save weight, they are heavier than stock....

best way is to get a new engine... 400ex weighs almost 100 and the crf only wieghs 65...swap to an aluminum frame and youve lost another 15 or so

Nausty

best thing would be a crf or yzf motor swap. other than that:

t-ake off all head lights and mounts
-run only as much gas as you would need on reserve so you don't have the extra part of the tank to waste on weight.
-carbon fiber rims
-pb block off
-if you wanna go the expensive way you can go w/ full titanium bolts
-aluminum bumper or none at all
-move the battery to front of quad next to stem and cut down all the wires so they don't have extra slack in them. Get a smaller clutch and get rid of the light switch and everything but the electric start button(I did this too).
-do they make Ti sub frames?
-get rid of rear skid if you mx race
-shorten up cables and wires as tight as possible
-carbon fiber trimmed plastic

Thats about all I can think of.

a new lighter exhaust

Well I dunno about a titanium sub-frame,but they make aluminum ones, and aluminum is lighter than titanium....

Titanium is lighter than steel but stronger than aluminum....

Aluminum is lighter than steel or titanium.....

If yah can remove the battery and just push start your stuff,it would be lighter, get the Rath racing carbon fiber 1gal tank, a carbon air-box,and so on...

You could hit the weight room and put your skirt back into your purse so you could handle what you have now;)...Sorry, I'm feeling sarcastic today:cool:

lol, ridereds suggestion actually makes a big differance too. Ever since my first race that i've been in shape its like when everyone else is slowing down after being tired its like i'm just getting warmed up and you can pitch around the bike super easy and being able to do all that just helps w/ the confidence that much more.

Take some X-Lax.. Sandblast all that heavy az paint off the frame. Shorts, no shirt, flip flops and one of those bicycle helmets.

Nope, every ounce counts. I mean, all a helmet does is stream line your head, so you should just shave your head and go without it.:devil

Okay,

Drag Frame- best weight reduction you can do

No plastic, lights, everything you can that wont keep the motor from running.

Skat Trak super light paddles

blue lable douglas rims

no front brakes

no shocks (its dragging, dont need them) replace with aluminum bars.

if you need shocks there are light wieght ones on the market

theres lots more
