Baldwin Motorsports and Nac's Racing are the biggest dealers for Laeger's. You can't buy through Laeger. Go to Baldwin Motorsports (http://www.baldwinmotorsports.com)

I called them once to ask about some products....at first I thought they would be the "I'm too busy to answer all your questions" type of people being such a large company and all, but to my surprise they were extremely nice. I was asking about their a-arms, etc., and the guy I talked to sat their and answered all my questions...pretty cool.

Laeger's isn't really a large company. None of the aftermarket chassis builders are what you would call a "large company" If they were, you'd be paying twice as much for their products just to cover the overhead.

Hello Guys:

It all depends on what you call a"Large company". Basically if you have 1500 people or less you are considered a small business.

Anyway, as for material costs, a large company should be able to buy materials much cheaper. I know that when we order steel tubing, the larger the order the better. Ordering for 100 frames or more brings the price down on each frame, but ordering for only 1 frame gets pretty expensive. In reality though, the material costs of any welded parts is very small as compared to all the machining, bending, cutting, welding, and just the overhead costs of paying the electric bills, phone, building cost, and even stuff like the boxes to ship parts in. When you look at all those other items, the steel is cheap. Even things like stickers ad up.

Mild Steel?

I don't understand what you mean when you say "mild steel". What was your question?

You Use Mild steel to build your Frame's and other Items?

Jnine

No. We don't use anything that could be classified as "mild steel" in any part we make. Just so everyone knows however, there are many grades of steel that could be considered "mild". It's all a matter of strength and mechanical properties, which are defined by the contents of each series of alloy.

Every part we make is from one of several alloys that we use, and that definitely includes 4130. In fact, our frames are made from 4130. The others are all classifed as a "super alloys" by their properties, one of which being strength. There really is no reason for us to use anything else. We're buying enough matertial that our costs for raw materials are probably 1/2 of what anyone else is paying, and there are other reasons for using the better materials as well. Lots of things we've learrned over the years. By the way, not all 4130 is the same either. It depends on the mill, and there are ones that we buy from, and ones that we won't.

Like I metioned earlier, raw material cost is not really a big deal in the production cost of any part we make.

Cool!
4130 Is a common stock. Yes like you said some is better then the others.
What do you use for your frames? 040, 058?
063? :devil :eek2: :eek2:
And do you use that same size And material through out the entire frame? Or just at the critical areas?
Thanks for the info.

Depending on which frame you are talking about (250R, EX, or CRF) we use at least 4 sizes of tubing, and various wall thickness. Also we do use at least 2 other alloys in places where 4130 was not working.
