Has anyone ever welded the front sprocket to the countershaft. The teeth on my countershaft are wearing down and the clip that locks the sprocket in place wore out, i bought a new clip, and that one instantly started to wear. I don't have money to replace the countershaft, so i was thinking about tack welding the sprocket to the countershaft. Do you guys have any suggestions.

i would definately not well anything to the counter shaft, but hey on the other hand you will have to replace it sometime so why not make it try to last longer, its just gonna be a biatch trying to gring the welds off when u have to take it apart and replace it.
best bet: do it right buy a new one tear ur motor apart and replace it.

Weldin dont work, i found that out when i bought a used 300ex, the sprocket had been welded on and the welds all broke, the chain broke and put a hole in the cases. Luckily the guy bought it back, sorry man:(

If money is really tight, I would build up the countershaft with some welding and remachine the grooves. I use the term "machine" loosely of course. More like filing and dremeling. Just an idea. BTW, you must have ridden the heck out of your 2001! :)

that happened to mine too, and mines also a 2001 hmmm.. well i had my cs replaced and now its fine (yet for sale i need a car)

yeah, you dont want to weld it, because when your sprocket wears down your SOL. and also then you will have a hell of a time getting it off when you decide to replace it. go to service honda. it cant be that much for one. and it doesnt take that long to tear the motor down and put it back together

I geuss I'm a hacker. I welded my shifter on when my shift spindle broke. It worked fine until I replaced it. If you weld it smart I think you will be alright. Just remeber you will have to take it of some day and it won't be that easy.

I decided to do it the right way and get it replaced. I went to a mechanic and he said it was going to cost $300 to $5OO to do everything, does that sound like a reasonable price.

splitting the cases is required for a counter shaft replacement isnt it??
all the gaskets and seals....parts...

it should be around 300 really...but it depends if he finds other bad stuff inside
