IM looking into making my motor run faster in my 400ex. Tell me what you think and if there is anything else that you disagree about or would just like to sahre your inout, plz feel free....

I plan on putting a hotcam stage 2 cam , I already have a Wiseco 11:1 piston, and port and polish..... my sponsor gave me a price quote of $250, but that includes port and polish for midrange, new top end, new valves, new valve seals...etc.. HE told me to keep my stock bore and he doesn't believe a 416 will do that much better, He recommended if i was gonna do a 416, might as well go for a 425/426 or 440.

My sponsor also told me that this will do me a world of difference now, but when i get tired of it they will make my motor a 440. He has been talking to L.A. Sleeve and the guy from L.A.Sleeve said they now have a HD sleeve so its more reliable, durable, and has less resitance to blowing head gaskets. He said that would be a favorable road we might take..... so tell me what you guys think.
thanks.

The 416 will give you a noticeable difference in power with the high compression piston, porting and Cam. If I were you go ahead and go with the 416 and you will be happy. There are a lot of 416's that will smoke 440's. Then When your 416 needs a rebuild go to the 426. I think you will be happy with that setup.
What exhaust are you planning on running?

This is what i got done now and i strictly ride motocross:

1. Wiseco 11:1 piston
2. New valves and valve springs
3. new stock cam
4. new oil pump
5. bored .80mm over
6.TC pipe( slip on)
7. K&N air filter

(I put all the parts above in my motor due to the fact that my stock piston literally blew up inside my motor and it took out all the parts listed. The pipe and air filter are mods ive added to add more "balls" to the quad. The way it stands now, my motor is about a 406.)

if your bored 80 over that's a 416 bore a 406 i dunno is like a 20 over or somwhere around that

I have a Wiseco .86mm 11:1 high comp. piston in my quad now... and my sponsor said with all my motorwork now I got a 406.

then you miss understood your mechanic a 86mm piston requires .040 over bore and if you had a .080 over bore than you would be required to run a 87mm piston

what do any of you recommend i do? my mechanic wants to keep the stock bore with my 11:1 piston. how can i get more power outta that? b/c all my mechanic recommended was a cam and port and polish job.

i would get rid of that wiseco and if you want to stick with the stock bore i would recomend getting a je piston which are more tru to there compression and bump it up to a 13:1 if you don't mind using race gas also on the smaller bores if you do a heavy port and poslish your really only goin to see increases more in the top of your powerband

Im running str8 CAM2 race gas right now. my mechanic wanted to do a midrange port and polish seeing how thats where i mostly spend my time racing at is in the midrange. Would the 13:1 piston be less reliable than my 11:1? would i have nay problems with starting it, running it, or what have you? thanks for your input im takin it all in

The 13:1 will be as relible as you make it i would suggest running larger head bolts, aftermarket rod, and a copper or steel head gasket, it is goin to put more stress on the motor so you just need to beef up the weaker areas talk to Chef he has a ex set up for TT and i beleive he's running ether 13 or 14:1 compression and i'm pretty sure his is ran WOT talk to him about reliability i think it's even around 465 dunno for sure i'm running what's in my sig right now it's a 416 with 11:1 compression and it's got a wierd two stroke like hit to it you really don't feel the power come on to mid of the powerband and then it pulls hard all the way to the top
