I am considering getting a set of ITP SpiderTrac tires at some point in the future.....as an extra set to take to races, and here is my reasoning.

2 out of the three tracks I regularly race at have started importing tons of sand.....this makes for deep sand in the corners - and mud everywhere else. My current tires seem pretty useless in these conditions....I lose tons of traction (so does everyone else, though) in these places (I have Shredders).

So - I'm thinking if I have a set of SpiderTracs handy I can slap those bad boys on and get some major traction in the deep stuff - might just give me an edge over my competition who are still spinning out in the corners. My concern is the weight - mostly.....

Just wanted to see what you guys thought - if anyone has tried these out - how they work, etc. They look pretty beefy - complete with side tread and everything........so.....let the opinions fly!!!:D

Oh - geez....I'm a dumb*****.....the ones I'm talking about ARE the Spidertracs.....sorry - don't know where I got f&^% Sidewinder from...I'm going to change my post!

Lil400exman - So...they work out OK for you on the MX track then? Do you notice any advantage with those over other people running regular Holeshots/Razors/Shredders, et?

Yeah - norrisboat - I'll ask on gomxracing too!;)

Holeshot MXR always seem to find traction, but they dont last as long as most tires...

You might want to think about the 20" tall Blackwaters (the 20s are lighter and have a flatter profile than the 22" version). I don't know how their weight compares to the Spidertracs, but the lug design is what I'm thinking about. Since the lugs on the Blackwaters are fairly straight across they tend to slide around corners easier (less 2-wheeling) than more "hooked" or "cupped" lugs, then when you get straightened up coming out of a corner it is almost like running a straight paddle.

have you taken the pure sport realitors(sp?) into consideration? they are reversable to be ran like a paddle and provide high floatation in the sloppy/sandy conditions (only they dont hook up the same as paddles) and the other way for normal conditions. these tires hook up GREAT the only problem is they are a little heavy but they last FOREVER i have had my bandits on the front of my x for like 2 years and they still have about 1/4- 1/2 inch of tread left on them.

Corry have you tried the stock Ohtsu radials in the sand? They work pretty good. A lot of racers use them at the Virginia beach race and other sand races. I saw a pair of tires a LONG time ago that I thought would do really good, but it's been so long since I've picked up a quad mag, I forgot the name:rolleyes:

What about Kenda Klaws? They are supposed to multi terraine. Turn them around for the soft stuff.

Dirtwheels has the Spidertracks on the Suzuki...It's the same issue as the one you are in.....very nice pic and article by the way...do you have an older sister who also likes quads...lol

I really like spidertacks, however they are heavy..you would need a good motor and re-gear to accomodate the 22 inch height over 18's you prob run...:)

i thought that spider tracs only ca,me in 22+ imchs when did they come out with 20 inch versions

PS i love my spider tracs hok up so much better in sand ect then my holeshots ever did. The spidertracs will take you wereever you want to go yes they are decently haevy but they will dig you out of everything

I was thinking about the weight thing - I have a 440, so I have power....and I already have a great power to weight ratio advantage over a lot of people in my class (I'm only about 130lbs....lighter than most of the guys I race with) - so I was thinking I could handle a bit heavier tire. And if I hooked up better than everyone else out there, I would make up time in the corners......I will have to look at the Realtors - I think I've seen them before.

realtors are 22 inch only:( the eat up the power cuase of the size stay with a 20 inch or below tire. This will not eat up the power as much..........;)

Actually, you probably have quite an advantage at the light body weight and powerful (torque) or the 440...If you can def stay at 20" level...The last issue to address would seem to be "slide control" for various reasons ie: center of gravity, tire roll, and side and/or or unexpected hookup....These areas has always been my biggest prob with the larger tires.

I'm currently running 20" rears, so I'm used to that size. I don't have a problem with tire roll (I inflate them pretty good) - and my quad is really wiiiiiiiiide - so no tipping. Hmmmmm.....well....I think that just for sh**s and giggles I will try a set of Spidertracs at some point down the line. No one I race with has anything even remotely similar - so it will be a good test to see if i have an advantage in the deep stuff with those or not. And if I do...then yay! If not...I'll know pretty quick and someone will be able to pick up a set of tires for pretty cheap! ;)

Thanks for the input, everyone - as always - exriders is awesome!

Go for the Razr2's or the 20'' Blackwaters.

Rotational weight is a big issue, but traction is more important. If you can get better traction out of the corners, I think that will far outwiegh the disadvantages of added wieght. Although the holeshot could pose a problem, it doesn't do any good to improve your lap time if you lose 10 positions in the first corner...:ermm:

I guess you'll never know unless you try them...

What about the new ITP mudlite...weight is "said" to be very close to razor 2.

Really? I'll have to look into those...I'm still kicking that whole tire thing around.....:)

06-26-2003, 01:57 PM
Are exactly what you need.

Not to big, heavy, and bulky like a blackwater...:ermm:

They have an aggressive tread that would work great for your racing area...
