Hey - for those of you who wanted to see some closeup pics of the Raptor hood install I did a while ago - I finally stole a camera long enough to get a few - so here they are. For anyone who is tired of seeing this $^#% thing - sorry - but I promised I'd post them!;) :D

Here's a close front view.....

400grl
05-07-2003, 07:33 AM
Here is a side view......this is a good pic to show how it was mounted at the top with the rivets w/ screw inserts - also shows my teeny tiny red ziptie to keep it more secure....and where I mounted my neutral indicator....

400grl
05-07-2003, 07:36 AM
This is the other side view....you can see my ignition switch in this one......

400grl
05-07-2003, 07:37 AM
This is a shot of my grille from the side......you can see the bend we put in it to keep it flush up underneath the hood, but still have it mounted securely to the frame (more zipties!).

lookin good :p

400grl
05-07-2003, 07:39 AM
and then....finally....a top view - to show how I notched the hood to fit my steering stem and cables......I have the aftermarket brake lines, though - I understand that if you have the stock brake line, you might have to notch out a little more.......

As far as whether or not a rappy hood will fit on a 300ex - I really don't know. I've never seen a 300ex up close - and I don't know how similar or different the front end is to a 400.......it's one of those things that you will just have to get ahold of a rappy hood and lay it on top to see how it all would line up. Pay attention to your mounting holes - if there are no conflicts and the slope matches well...then I would say it might work.

And for the lines I used when I cut my fenders.....I went about 1/2 inch past the molded crease that begins the flair.....I wanted to keep just a little of the "lip" on my fender......just to be different. Just start a little wide if you aren't sure how much you want to cut....you can always cut more if you choose to.

where did u get your rappy hood?

400grl
05-08-2003, 12:43 PM
I bought if from a Yamaha dealer here in town - he ordered it from Yamaha for me......it was pretty cheap because I get a good discount from them - but even if you don't get a discount, if you order a 2001 hood they are only about $35.00 I think! I think they get more expensive the newer they are.......you can check the price of the hood on www.worldofpowersports.com - in their OEM parts finder section - that's where I looked!

Dune Surfer

That looks sweet. Looks much badder than a stock 400. The rapter hood is what I like best about a rapter. Uh oh I may have to copy you :D

400grl
05-10-2003, 03:37 AM
No - it's stock Yamaha color - ohhhhhhhh.....I see the question. I had another blond moment apparently:rolleyes::D - this is a red hood from an '03 Raptor.....obviously they didn't made red ones before 2003. Don't know what the hey I was thinking - that's what happens when I type faster than I think! ;) The only reason to go '01 is if you want a blue hood....which would look killer with silver shiny Meier! The red hoods go for pretty cheap - even right from Yamaha - it's the cool carbon fiber ones from Yamaha that are so friggin' expensive!

Yeah - I have always loved the look of the Raptors....they just look like they mean business. Plus this gives me tons of extra air flow to my cooler!

If you want, I made up the directions and stuff of how I did this and I would be happy to e-mail anyone who wants to give this a shot! Just let me know your e-mail addy and I'll send it all to you. :D

Uh uh! FullThrottleMX is Scott Doughty's site - he is actually an exrider member - Crypted1, I believe! You should call him! He hasn't gotten his site fully functional yet, but his business has been up and running for a while! He's a great guy - he is helping me the most this season with my races - and he has lots of connections! You can tell him about his typo - too! ;) :D Thanks for the props!

That hood is Awesome! I was thinking of seeing how a KFX hood would fit on my 400...I really like the rappy hood on it though. How it flows with the lines and everything. Great job! keep on ridin'! PEACE! Oh yeh! could I get some of those directions from you? it'd be much appreciated! Thanks. Chronic_Animosity@hotmail.com

I put the hood on my bike i was wondering what kind of screen you used behind the hood

400grl
01-16-2004, 02:59 PM
I bought a piece of expanded metal at Lowe's (any hardware store should have some) - I painted it silver, but gloss black would look good too! :) I cut it to fit the frame under the hood - it is more secure if you attach it to the frame under the hood instead of try to attach it somehow to the hood itself. Also....stainless perforated metal would look killer, too! :) (like a punch grill!)

NO......I don't have the quad anymore.....I sold it a while back to get ready for my new 450. I miss it!!! :) I liked the SKIN graphics a lot - really nice seat cover and the graphics were really heavy duty and super sticky! Plus.....I didn't know anyone else who had them! LOL! :)

Oh man....you know, I don't have those anymore. Changed computers at work, and it was on that hard drive......sorry about that!! :)

If you get a rappy hood, take off your lights on the Honda and hold it up to the front plastics, you can kind of see how it will fit up there. You need to make your own slots in your honda plastics to fit the Rappy ones, and then you can use very discreet little zipties to hold the rest of the hood flush on the plastics.....I made a screen to go under the grilled, too. You will also need to trim out the very top of the raptor hood to fit your steering stem, if I remember right......

Sorry about that - if I still had the directions I'd send them to you! :)
