Has anyone ever seen a aftermarket 440motor compete with a crf?

It'll cost more to totaly do up a 400ex engine then to just got out and buy a crf. Have you seen the price some engine builders are charging for there top of the line kits?? its outragous. plus then you gotta up the clutch components for the added power. People are starting to realise doing up a 400ex enigne so heavily isn't worth it any more. a 440 and hi comp is ok. But once you start spending 5000 on the engine its not worth it. But to answer your question the crf will still be faster then a totaly built ex. ANd much more relaible. The only the advantage the ex has is its easy to handle power band. Although the crf is easy to. The ex is just an easy machine to ride.

yea I know. Those crf motors are scary fast, and they are easy to ride too.Im thinking about buying on from service honda and stuffing it into my ex frame, but I may not have the cash to destroke it.

So what if I ordered a CRF 450 from service Honda and shiped it directly to Curtis Sparks and had the Carb, igntion coil, and CDI box installed in it.
Would that stock CRF 450 be quicker than a totally decked out Sparks National 440 Kit?

How much does the CRF 450 weigh?
I think the 400EX weighs around 100 pounds

Also, what about all the water cooled parts for it? Where and how much would that be?

I looked up on Sparks sight and it says that the engine weighs in at a very light 65 lbs.
They have an exhaust system for it and they say it MOVES!
They carb is a 40mm FCR
One last question is since it is a stock HONDA motor, it will be very reliable? right?

yes really reliable... but i would look at both the crf 450 and the yzf 426... the 426 you can build for a cheapier price, plus honda recomends to change the rings on the crf ever 50+ hours, for some reason?!?!:eek2: :huh

the 426 has a little more snap to it (ask forum about that, hes got one) and ( ilike it at least) it has a dual over head 5 valve engine compared to the crf a single over head cam and i believe 4 valves... 426 is easier to start then you think it is, all that gibers about the yzf starting hard is bull, it takes about 2-3 kicks to start it... the crf does start a lot easier, but for the money i think i would take the yzf 426 give her some tlc and get it bored to 440, pipe etc... and it will walk on the crf 450...
