A friend of mine just bought an 86 250r for $1,000. The quad runs fine but the power band will not cut in.could it be the reeds? not sure where to start looking for the problem. any suggestions?

I would say to pull off the carb & replace the reeds no matter how they look... clean out the carb good too.. it could just be plugged with crap.... get a new spark plug also.... clean the air filter or buy a new one... a $1000 for a 250r is real cheap, spend a couple bux & replace worn parts..... if you have access to a compression gauge check the piston comp.. it should be over 160 or it needs a topend & that would rob top end power too. Check all this out first, this is your starting point.

Yes, replace reeds. Check your carb and airfilter.

If it has the stock pipe, it won't "hit" as hard as an aftermarket pipe will...

It's gotta be the reeds, start with that, then see how it goes. Reeds aren't too expensive, i would get some boyeseen ones.
