alright me and my friend both have 400ex's with the exact same things dont to them.the only thing different is i have the new sparks pipe that is shorter and we have the same jetting which i dont think would cause this problem...when we drag i beat him thru 1-3 gears and in 4th and 5th he pulls me really bad.it feels like my 4th and 5th gears dont pull at all...i dragged at the dunes against other 400ex's and the same exact thing happened i would win in gears 1-3 then everyone would kill me in 4th and 5th.whats wrong with my bike?? cuz nobody knos whats wrong with my bike that ive talked to

well i dont know exactly what is wrong but i would try cleaning your carb...cleaning your chain...and it may be something wrong with ur cam...but im not sure about that...the timeing may be off

did you rejet it?

Did you buy it brand new? Maybe somebody changed your sprocket one tooth.

Im also ussuming that you both have the same gearing then and the same size tires? You weigh the same?
Seems like a puzzle to me. Same octane gas?

If everything is the "same" between the quads (literally) , except the exhaust that you have , my first thing would be , who did the jetting and was it done before or after the exhaust was put on.

WHAT KIND OF EXHAUST DOES UR FRIEND HAVE, AND ARE THEY SLIP ONS OR FULL EXHAUST? ur pipe may not put out as much bottom at others, does it bog or does it feel like you just ont have much power, if 1st -3rd are fine it shouldnt be ur carb.

we both got curtis sparks x-6 full system but i have the new one that has a shorter pipe and the power is said to be the same..i had honda jet mine and they put a 152 so i put a 158 and it seemed to work better but my 4th and 5th gears does not pull barely at all

honda had already put a 152 in it before the pipe even came in and right when it came in they put the pipe on

to keep this simple , the first thing i would do , since the bikes are the same is jet them the same, 158 does sound big, what does your spark plug look like. if he is running the same jets, then its not the carb

first u gotta answer the question if it bogs or if the power just levels off. It the power just levels off, i would think gearing, cuz the motor would be fine, but if it bogs, it is all motor. Maybe jetting,or timing, or could even be a slightly cloged gas tank. I dont know, but u gotta answer the questions.

no it doesnt bog....once i switch into 4th it just levels off and barely gains any more speed..i think i got the jetting right cuz ive tried 152 158 155 and 155 seems the best....it might be the timing ill have to have someone check that cuz i dont kno how...i dont think the gas is clogged cuz i hit empty yesterday and it seemed to look fine

I would say that statement says it all. 3 main points to make....

First. The X-6 is supposed to be used with BUILT engines. When used with a stock motor, you are actually loosing HP because of the way its built.

Second. With a "racing" pipe, i find it REALLY hard to believe a 152 main is to be used. With my DMC alien system, i am running a 165 and its pretty darn close to perfect.

Third. You have a DIFFERENT pipe that your buddy. Perhaps the nex X-6 is designed differently that the previous model. It is been said over and over again that a shorter pipe will USUALLY give you more buttom-end. This seems to be that exact senario that you are explaining.

I'm no pro mechanic. This is just what i think....

the x-6 is built for more top end...not bottom end...the x-4 is the low end pipe

Why don't you and your friend swap exhausts and see if it changes anything.

Try a 152 main... You really shouldn't need much more. Also check your plug, make sure the gap is set to recomended or a lil larger.

Check your air filter and make sure you have the choke off.:confused2
