i have an 87 250x with 12:1 piston. i was hill climbing this weekend when the tranny locked up on a hillclimb. it did not want to come out of neutral but finally it did and now the motor will not budge when i kick start it. the motor appears to be froze up even when it is in neutral. the motor was running when the back wheels quit turning but now it wont budge. any ideas????????

I have had pistons freeze up on me before. You might take off the head and hit down on the piston with a block of wood and a hammer to break it free. If thats the problem it most likely scored the cylinder but it might still run. What do you have to lose?

You probably blew the piston, i've done a few times with my sleds, Take the spark plug out and drop oil down there and let it soak in and it will eventually come free but the piston is definetly toast.

I did that on my YZ hill climbing also, and fried the piston, needed a new piston and bore, and then ran fine, take ur top end apart and check cus im 98% sure that is what it is mine was an 87' also.

coke or pepsi works too if its really bad the fiz will eat away at the carbon and what not, also you pry are gonna have to get it bored and a new piston so might as well start tearin down unless it was a crank bearing

If it's a crank bearing, you're going to need some Mountain Dew. J/K. Did you warm it up good? Just thinking you might have cold seized the piston. If you take it apart and the piston is seized, put a little oil in the bore and tap it with a piece of wood and a hammer, it should free up.

If it ran but the wheels stoped and now nothing moves....I would say that something in the tranny went, could be a gear, bearing or clutch part. Could be anything in there. What exactly were you doing when this happened? Lettin of gas, shifting, clutch it or did it just go? Knowing what you were doing exactly could help alot with the mystery. First thing I would do is remove the side case on the clutch side and look for damage or clues...

Didn't the old 250x's have a second gear problem? I think they did....
