It depends on who you talk to. Obviously Rico doesn't like them. I would wager that if you ten different people it would end up being 50/50. The problem with the 440s is the nortorious headgasket issues. BUT IT CAN BE FIXED RIGHT You just have to sit down and figure on what kind of riding or racing you'll be doing and go from there. I have had both a 416 and now a 440. I loved the 416 but am in love with my 440. I can pull a hillclimb and be a gear off.

what were the approximate power increases with your 416? i ride mostly woods and smaller jumps (under 35-40 ft), and hopefully the dunes sometime. i'm thinking about 406 or 416, just wondering how much more you get

The 416 I had was a "happy" motor. It reved pretty quick and i noticed more top end. I ride all woods and the only air I catch is the occaisonal creek jump. That's why I opted for a 440. If your riding mostly woods than i would recomend a 440 but do your home work and don't make the mistakes others have when building them. If your gonna ride mostly dunes and mx than I would recomend the 416.

in past experience the 440 kit is great all around. quadman said something about the head gaskets, that can be fixed by getting steel inserts in your head to keep the studs from pulling out through the head. its your choice though. i like power so i'd go with it. the stock motor wasnt strong enough for me so i put a few mods in mine.:D

My 440 is day & night compared to stock or even a well modded stock displacement ex I have a Wiseco 440 11;1 with gt thunder studs Hotcams stroker cam powercore 4 pipe ,open box K &n etc. its a beast in the woods great for hill climbing or if your a speed freak you can throw a little more gear at it for top speed
