Everyone says 14 teeth on the front is the way to go...I belive that gives you omre top end...and when you go lower it gives you more bottom end power !

I'm going to buy new tires for my 300ex , probably 20" and I'm going to change my gearings a bit , i want the bike geared closer to a 400ex. The only problem is if i run this gearing will in be too high for my clutch/motor to handle?

when u say that, a 14 inch sprocket will only decrease your hp in the low end, once u get past, lets say 4500-5000rpm, u should be fine with it.

ive got a 14 tooth on the front of my 300 and its got plenty of power to pull it, it now gos within 10mph of a 400ex with the exeleration as it does with a 13 tooth and my bikes stock, i highly recomend it

you don't actually lose horsepower. Gearing changes where the horsepower is.

Most riders prefer the 14F/36R combination over the stock gearing even when running stock height tires.

I've seen some guys run 34s on the rear for banked oval track use. It all depends on where you do most of your riding. If you find yourself always wanting another gear to shift, I would recommend you change to the 14 front and see how it works for you.

If you find there is still room for taller gearing, then go and add the 36 rear. 3 teeth difference on the rear is equivelant to 1 on the front on most machines. [depending on the # difference from front to rear]

when I change my front sprocket, should I also replace my chain and maybe even my rear sprocket to the same size?

also, is it worth it with a megamax 2 complete system and a K&N power kit (air filter, jetting)?

a buddie of mine just bought a 300ex to..

i told him what you guys said .

and he just ask me to clear things up a little bit better..

he runs maxxis sure trax 22inch and the bike is stock its like 3 days old. he dont want to buy a pipe. or less he knows for sure it gains more than one or two horsepower.

and he dont want to lose to much bottom end but he rides on the road alot and the speed limit on his road is 60 and he is having a hard time.

what are the disadvantages of a 14tooth sproket?? i cant feel a power lost on mine when i added mine. the dealer put it on for me when he was jetting it and pipin it . so i dont know how much trouble it was. and he siad he wanted to do it his self.

Theres a big difference between 12 and 14. First of I have a 14 tooth c/s and the only reason I bought it was to keep from hittin the rev limiter and I hardly ever do now. If you get a 12 you will hit the rev limiter wayyy too easy. I have a K&N Filter, White bros Pro Meg E series, 135 main and with the 14 sprocket and pop the clutch and stand it straight up in1st through 4th gears and bring it up bout 3 foot in 5th. For $10 bucks the 14 c/s sprocket helps alot.
