Ok, me and my dad want to open up little shop, and i was wondering, what it all takes to become a dealer. Like how do you get a license, and how do you become a dealerof another company or example "IMS" or "Axs", etc. Maybe C&D can help me out with this one. Thanks guys;)

Most places have a certain buy in. Like you have to spend so much each time to become a dealer of their products. Could be 500 dollars or 1000 dollars, it varies compainy to company.

You need to get a business license from the town the business will be in. Then you will need to have a printed phone number with the business name in the phonebook. This is required from most companies to get dealer prices.

Jamie is correct - you will need a business license from your state, a seperate business bank account, seperate books for taxes (so you don't mix your personal and business money - a big no-no), a seperate store front (i.e. you can't run your business out of your house), a phone book listing, and some references in the ATV industry, and a substantial amount of capital to buy in to several distributors and manufacturers (some won't even accept new dealers, all make you buy a substantial amount of products before you can become a dealer). These distributors will not deal with internet only businesses, so you need a store front (usually the distributors ask for pictures of your store to be enclosed in your application). It is quite a pricey undertaking. ;)

Good luck :D

Yep....Ben hit that one right on the head!!!!! For example......most manuf. or distributors have around a $5000 first order to receive their dealer discounts.
You should also look into becoming a corporation to protect your personal assets!

and if some one sells that brand in the imediate area the company won't give you a dealership.

Jeff and Ben are both Dead on if you get caught not having a real buisness they will pull your discounts and all !! i know everytime we get someone new you have to fax a tax id number and all your information and some even require a picture of your store front and the shop area then they will sometimes ask for a buisness card its a tedious process and can get you in trouble i know that Nacs has a 1000 dollar buy in Parts unlimited is a huge by in and so forth !! not worth the hassle if your just wanting to get some good deals !!

what about just selling parts online? like knowing places or making your own parts and selling them? or lets say i can get big discounts from lsr for non dealership reasons, could i buy like 6 axles and then turn around and sell them?
