is the electrical system on my 400ex 12 volts? can i use a regular car charger to charge it? with new hi comp. piston it wont turn over unless totally charged!

yes its 12volt...and dont charge it with more then 5 amps. get a YT12ABS battery...it will handle the high compression:D

thanks pappy I really appriciate it. starts up fine for now. im going to the sand dunes tonight and that got me a little worried so thanks again and by the way how much does one of those batteries cost?

i believe they retail for like $79 but i normally ship them for like $69. i normally dont try and sell batts online...but noone seems to stock that number:( except me:devil

Try a Deka ETX-9 battery. It is a gel and has 120 more cold cranking than stock. If you have a high rev box, sometimes you have to put a stocker on and warm your bike up, then switch black boxes back.

re check the CCA on that deka;) the YTX line are all AGM batteries(gell)

Is it OK to connect a trickel charger to my quad without disconnecting the positive lead?

yeah it wont hurt it but dont let a trickle charger remain on a battery that small for more the 5 hours at a time depending on its amperage rating. invest in one of the maintaning chargers ....well worth the money.

Pickup a "Battery Tender Plus" from online sources. They ship with a trick lug setup you can leave on the battery for quick connect and seperate alligator clips. These are made to be left on the batt all the time when not in use bringing the batt up to charge and then applying a maintenence charge as needed. No worrys, unplug and go. Never will overcharge or boil out electrolite.
